Xiaomi Mi TV 4s review

Considering all this, the main task of the brand is to convince consumers that they offer a quality product at an affordable price, about 35,000 rubles. That is how much the 55-inch model Xiaomi Mi TV 4S costs, and this is a very attractive price, which is less than the price of products from other manufacturers.

This Xiaomi Smart TV 4S 55” is only €420. But has ADS!?

However, there are some details that we would like to share with you in order to determine if this TV is the best option you can purchase. So let’s take a closer look, all the characteristics of the Mi TV 4S.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S: полный обзор и опыт использования

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S. budget TV review

Xiaomi has generated a lot of interest with its TVs in the markets of many countries. Now, they have appeared on the Russian market. We were able to spend a few days with the 55-inch model and the main question is, does it live up to our expectations? We will answer this question in our Xiaomi Mi TV 4S review.

Software

The operating system Xiaomi Mi TV 4S is nothing more than Android TV. It makes no sense, for a very long time to comment, this software is for TVs created by Google. Android TV is a complete system with a lot of applications and features. If you want to watch Netflix, you can download this app. Also, you can use other services such as YouTube, Movistar. AtresMedia, Amazon Prime Video, etc.

over, you are offered not only applications for accessing video streaming services. With this TV, you can use a PLEX player for content stored on USB sticks or connected to the same local network. And if you want, you can connect the game console to Mi TV 4S. Android TV offers you unlimited possibilities of using.

In addition, Xiaomi has presented two more details that may be interesting for the user. First of all, it is PatchWall, which can replace Android TV’s own interface. It provides access to your favorite content, applications, and various other available video sources. This launcher is very similar to TVOS, Apple’s operating system for its Apple TV.

over, this application is designed to control home automation. If you have Xiaomi smart devices such as light bulbs, sensors, etc., you can control them from your TV, which will become a kind of home automation control center. Also, on Xiaomi Mi TV 4S, there is support for Google Assistant, Chromecast and other common Smart TV options.

If the Honor has that this TV is equipped with a 4-core MediaTek MSD6886 processor, and all of the above works without any glitches, then this is great for a TV at this price. Therefore, at the level of possibilities and use cases, our assessment is very positive.

Our only criticism is the advanced configuration options, which for more advanced users might be a bit scarce. However, for the majority of potential users that we think this TV is targeting, this will be the least problem.

Sound and image quality

We can talk long and hard about the image and sound quality of the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S. However, given that, you can simply say that it works very well. The image quality, with all kinds of content, is very good. On this TV, you will enjoy a lot of all kinds of content. Choosing an IPS LCD panel made by LG seems to be very correct.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S is equipped with an IPS LCD panel made by LG

However, this panel, compared to VA panels used in the higher price ranges, has disadvantages in terms of contrast. In addition, the image quality is affected by the backlight system, which is of the EDGE LED type, and not FULL ARRAY LED. However, considering that the control of the illuminated areas is not so precise and that the black depth is somewhat shallower due to the color presentation, brightness and good viewing angles, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S is at the highest level.

As far as HDR support goes, it is HDR10 compatible, not the latest HDR10 or Dolby Vision. Thus, the content does not match what the expensive models with superior features offer. Mi TV 4S may offer a large dynamic range, but don’t expect it to be very wide.

Let’s now talk about sound. In truth, we didn’t expect great sound quality from this TV. Xiaomi Mi TV 4S has correct, clear sound and you will be satisfied with it when watching a movie or TV series. However, when compared with what any soundbar or other external equipment offers, the difference is obvious.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S design

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S has very thin frames around the screen

Consideration of design is the first thing that comes to mind when choosing a TV. Here, Xiaomi did not come up with anything new and offers a product in its own style. The front panel is flawless and has rather small bezels around the perimeter. They give the product a striking and attractive look. However, Xiaomi Mi TV 4S does not offer any innovative solutions in comparison with devices from other manufacturers.

On the back panel, everything happens, a little differently. When placing the TV against a wall, the back panel is not very interesting, but when you look at it carefully, you understand where Xiaomi has saved.

The TV case is made of polycarbonate, which is one of the highest quality plastics. When you move the TV, from place to place, or touch it, it becomes clear that its build quality is inferior to more expensive devices. Is this a problem? Not at all, because this does not in any way affect the functionality and image quality.

Our verdict

The Russian market is one of those markets where the popularity of Xiaomi, in the field of producing good smartphones, makes many people predisposed to buying other products from this company. But is it worth proceeding from this when choosing a TV? Our answer is yes, but we also advise you to consider one more point.

A TV is a type of product that has a longer lifespan than other products we usually change every two years or more. With Xiaomi Mi TV 4S, you can safely spend five to ten years without changing your TV.

If you take advantage of such an offer by placing a bet on the purchase of this Xiaomi TV, you will not regret it. But if you can spend a little more money, you can take advantage of the offerings of manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Sony, etc.

Working with video sources

Cinema modes were tested when connected to a Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player. An HDMI connection was used. The TV supports 480i / p, 576i / p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p at 24/50/60 Hz. The colors are correct, taking into account the type of video signal, the brightness definition is high. Color clarity is slightly lower than possible. In the standard video range (16-235), all gradations of shades are displayed on the gray scale (it is better to increase the Contrast setting to 56). In the case of 1080p at 24 fps, frames are output with alternating durations of 11 frames by 2 and one by 3. That is, the TV goes into a mode with a refresh rate of 50 Hz. Slow posting in a 24fps movie looks bad, as frame fading once every half a second is detected by the eye much better than 2: 3 strobing at 60Hz refresh rate. For illustration, here is a graph showing the duration of frames when sequentially outputting white and black frames at a frequency of 24 fps:

READ  Xiaomi Mi TV 4s 55 review

It can be seen that two white frames are displayed with a duration increased by 1.5 times.

In most cases, the TV does a good job of converting interlaced video signals to a progressive image. When scaling from low resolutions and even in the case of interlaced signals and a dynamic picture, the edges of objects are smoothed. the teeth on the diagonals are weakly expressed. Apparently, the video noise suppression function always works. Its quality is good.

When connected to a computer via HDMI, we received an image output in a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels with a frame rate up to 60 Hz inclusive. Refresh rate adjustments are performed for sources of 25 and 50 fps at 50 Hz and 30 and 60 fps at 60 Hz. In case of a 4K signal with original color fidelity (RGB output), the actual image is output to the TV screen without degrading the color fidelity.

Under Windows 10, HDR output to this TV is possible by selecting the appropriate options in the display settings. At a resolution of 4K and 60 Hz, the output goes in 8-bit per color mode, supplemented by dynamic color mixing, apparently with the help of a video card at the hardware level. At 30 Hz. 12 bits per color:

Playback of test videos with 10-bit color and smooth gradients showed that there is much more gradation than with simple 8-bit output without HDR. However, the presence of dynamic color mixing is visible to the naked eye, and it is performed better by the video card, and not by the TV itself. Test HDR videos with real and test images were displayed with good quality according to subjective feelings. The maximum brightness in HDR mode is the same as in SDR mode, also the color gamut is not wide (see below), so HDR support is nominal, but still there.

Determining response time and output latency

Black-white-black response time is 22.1 ms (15.3 ms on 6.8 ms off). Transitions between semitones occur in an average of 26.1 ms in total. There is no “overclocking” of the matrix. In general, from our point of view, this speed of the matrix is quite enough for playing not very dynamic games.

We determined the total output latency from switching the video buffer pages to the start of displaying the image on the screen. As a result, when connected via HDMI, the delay in image output in the case of a 3840 × 2160 and 60 Hz signal was about 50 ms. Such a delay is felt even when using the TV as a monitor for working on a PC, not to mention dynamic games.

Appearance

The design is strict. The narrow bezel surrounding the screen is made of uncoated unpolished steel (apparently stainless, but highly magnetic). The frame reflects light sources and just something very light placed in front of the TV. The back panel, conventionally in the upper part, is made of a thin sheet of steel and has a resistant black matte finish. Backward-projecting casings in the center and in the lower part of the rear panel with an approach to the bottom end are made of black plastic with a matte surface. The TV looks neat enough from behind.

TV is not very thin by modern standards.

The outer surface of the LCD matrix is black and almost mirror-smooth, but there is very little matting, so the reflections in the screen are slightly blurred. The screen has anti-glare properties. the brightness of reflected objects is slightly reduced and their reflection takes on a brownish tint.

At the bottom end in the center there is a ledge with a window in front of transparent plastic. Behind the window are a status indicator (blinking white while the TV is loading) and, apparently, an IR receiver.

At the bottom on the ledge there is a single button with which you can control the TV in a limited way without using the remote control.

The standard stand consists of two plastic feet with a tick. Legs are supported by anti-slip rubber pads. The TV stands steadily and vertically, but the rigidity of the structure is low, the TV sways for a long time from a slight jolt. The distance between the leg supports is approximately 1255 mm. a TV set can be placed on a cabinet of this width. The measured case width is 1453 mm. the TV will fit into a niche of this width. Height. with legs 900 mm, without legs. 840 mm.

An alternative way to install the TV without using the standard feet is to mount the TV to the wall using a bracket for VESA 300 250 mm mounting holes. The connectors are located in two recesses on the rear panel and are oriented down and to the side. The wires coming out of the niche, which is closer to the center, will have to be bent and brought back, which seems extremely inconvenient, especially when mounting the TV on the wall. It is not clear what prevented the manufacturer from making the niche open or providing a channel for cables. The power cable is not detachable, its length is 1.5 m (Chinese plug, with flat contacts).

There are ventilation grilles on the center plastic cover at the top and bottom. Loudspeakers with elongated diffusers can be seen behind two grilles at the bottom end.

The TV is packed and everything to it in a solid narrow, modestly decorated box made of corrugated cardboard. Side slit handles are made for carrying in the box.

Measurement of brightness characteristics and power consumption

Brightness measurements were taken at 25 points on the screen, spaced 1/6 of the width and height of the screen (screen borders not included). Contrast was calculated as the ratio of the brightness of the white and black fields at the measured points.

Parameter Average Deviation from the average min.,% max.,%
Black field brightness 0.30 cd / m² −18 12
Brightness of the white field 310 cd / m² −13 12
Contrast 1020: 1 −16 6.3

Hardware measurements showed that the contrast for IPS-type matrices is typical by modern standards, and the uniformity of all three parameters is acceptable. On the black field, you can notice some variation in the backlight across the screen area. However, in the photo below, the main unevenness (flare to the corners) is caused by the fact that the camera was relatively close to the screen, and the contrast decreases when viewed from an angle:

Brightness of the white field in full screen when measured in the center of the screen and power consumption (no USB devices connected, sound off, Wi-Fi active):

Backlight setting value, %% of the scale Brightness, cd / m2 Power consumption, W
one hundred 327 179
fifty 190 112
90 68.0

In standby mode, TV consumption is approximately 0.4 W.

At maximum brightness, the image will not appear faded, even in a brightly lit room. But for a condition of complete darkness, the minimum brightness may turn out to be too large.

The backlight brightness is controlled by PWM at 300 Hz:

The modulation frequency is relatively high, flicker can not be detected in principle during normal TV viewing, but still at medium and low brightness with fast eye movements or in the stroboscopic effect test, image flicker can be detected.

The heating of the TV can be estimated from the following image, stitched together from three images from an IR camera, obtained after long-term operation at maximum brightness in a room with a temperature of about 24 ° C:

Apparently, this TV uses not edge, but backlighting (with vertical stripes of LEDs), not divided into independently controllable zones.

Play multimedia content

Video and sound can be transmitted from a tablet / smartphone running Android (still images are good, watching videos is worse due to lower frame rates and the addition of artifacts).

In superficial testing of the playback of multimedia content, we limited ourselves to a number of files launched mainly from external USB drives. UPnP (DLNA) servers can also be sources of multimedia content. (And when using third-party programs and other servers.) We tested 2.5 ″ hard drives, external SSD and ordinary flash drives. The two tested hard drives worked without any problems from the USB port without additional power, and in standby mode of the TV itself or after a certain period of inactivity, the hard drives turned off. Note that the TV supports USB drives with FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file systems, and there were no problems with Cyrillic names of files and folders. The TV player detects all files in folders, even if there are a lot of files on the disk (more than 100 thousand).

It makes little sense to test the playback of audio files using the built-in player, since there will certainly be a third-party program that will handle this well and as convenient for the user. In the case of raster graphic files, the capabilities of the built-in player are worth discussing, since only it can play these files in a true resolution of 3840 × 2160, pixel by pixel, and even without reducing the color definition. All third-party programs, like the OS itself, display a static image at a resolution of 1920 × 1080. However, both the built-in player and third-party programs can output video in true 3840×2160 resolution using hardware decoding.

READ  How To Control Xiaomi TV From Phone

We have confirmed the ability of the built-in TV player to display bitmap graphic files in JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP formats. It is possible to launch a slideshow with transition effects and even to music (some preset is used, it is not clear how to change it). In general, the functionality of this player is very limited.

Video playback tests were carried out using the MX Player. Supports hardware decoding of audio tracks in at least AAC, AC3, OGG, MP3, DTS and WMA formats. Most of the modern high-resolution files we tested were playable without problems in hardware decoding mode, up to H.265 variants with 4K resolution at 60 fps (4K H.265 with 50 or 60 fps is unstable). Playback of HDR video files (HDR10 and HLG, MP4, M2TS, MKV containers) is supported, and in the case of files with 10 bits per color, according to visual assessment, there are more shades of gradation than 8-bit files. Unfortunately, the TV’s decoder does not support the VP9 codec, and the saddest consequence of this is problems with playing WebM streams from YouTube. There were also some troubles with decoding MPEG1 and MPEG2 of standard (low) resolution. the image could not be output with an increase to the closest edges of the screen and keeping the original aspect ratio. Sometimes it seems that the most ordinary video files did not want to be played in hardware decoding mode, or they were played, but with artifacts. However, this did not happen very often. The maximum bitrate of 4K video files, at which there were no artifacts yet, depends not only on the source, but also on the file format. If we focus only on the maximum bit rate, then when playing from USB-drives it was 300 Mbps, over a wired Ethernet network. 90 Mbps, and over Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz bands are supported). 120 Mbps from. In the last two cases, the media server of the Asus RT-AC68U router was used. The statistics on the router show that the transmission and reception speed is 433.3 Mbps, that is, the TV is likely to have an 802.11ac adapter with one antenna.

The volume of the built-in speaker system for a living room, corresponding in size to a given screen diagonal, can be considered sufficient. There are high and medium frequencies, a little low. The stereophonic effect is pronounced, but weak. There are spurious resonances in the body, but there is no rattling even at high volumes. However, in general, for the class of the acoustics built into the TV, its quality is acceptable.

Commutation

The table with characteristics at the beginning of the article gives an idea of the communication capabilities of the TV.

The connectors are standard, full-sized and more or less loosely placed. There is no automatic switching to the input with an appearing signal if it is absent at the current one. Basic support for HDMI cross control works: TV turns on BD player when turned on and turns off when turned off, TV turns on when BD player turns on. You can connect external speakers or headphones to the TV via Bluetooth. Headphones (more precisely, a headset) could also be connected via USB, but the microphone on the headphones did not work.

Equipment

This is what was in the huge box: a TV with a non-removable power cable, two stands (each with two legs), screws for fastening the stands, a remote control, instructions and a warranty card. The manual states that the kit should include AAA batteries for the remote, but we got a test sample without them.

Android TV

The TV is powered by Android TV. It is easy to return to the main screen of the operating system by pressing a button on the remote.

This is where the customizable app and feed bar is located. “Favorites” picks up content that you have not watched on synchronized sites. For example, at this point I was offered to watch “House Doctor”, “Clinic”, “Duck Tales” and once bought on ivi.ru “Escape from Vegas”.

The Android TV screen can be considered the main menu section. Even the PatchWall, which brings all the content together, is presented here as a child wrapper. You will have to return to Android TV to select the desired streaming service, go to the TV settings or download the application from Google Play.

Interfaces

All connectors are located on the back of the case. They are located on two sites. Those inputs that you will rarely use, such as the antenna, are hidden in the central part of the case. Sockets for flash drives, headphones and other devices that require quick access are located on the side to make them easier to reach.

  • Ethernet input for connecting a LAN cable. for a wired Internet connection;
  • optical output. for connecting Hi-Fi speakers;
  • RCA inputs. classic “tulips” for connecting external sources;
  • RF-input. for connecting an analog terrestrial television antenna;
  • USB connectors. three sockets for flash drives, external hard drives, mice and keyboards;
  • CI-interface. for connecting a Smart-card of pay digital television;
  • mini-jack-input. analog audio jack for connecting headphones or external speakers;
  • HDMI inputs. three sockets for connecting sources, one of which supports ARC (useful for simplifying the connection of external audio devices).

There were some oddities: some of the connectors on the side pad are located as if randomly. A pair of USBs from the third similar connector are separated by all the other jacks, and the headphone jack and the CI interface are located as if no one had thought about their placement in advance. This does not affect the quality of switching, and under normal conditions this oddity is hidden from view, so this is hardly a drawback.

Google Assistant

The voice assistant works correctly: for several days he did not make a single mistake when reading words. But its algorithms don’t always work the way you expect. For example, on the query “turn on TLC” the assistant does not include the TV channel of the same name, but finds a video with an abbreviation on YouTube.

Services and application support

Often the added value of new products on the market is the added value. the subscriptions you save on. When you buy Xiaomi TVs, you will receive six-month subscriptions to Megogo, TVzavr, ivi.ru and 24 hours TV. Also, the first film in Okko will cost 1 ruble. Based on the subscriptions screen in PatchWall, the list of offers will continue to grow. It should be understood that someday all preferential subscriptions will end and you will have to pay for previously available content.

If a service is on Google Play, but not in the TV menu, you can download it. For example, Netflix. APK downloads are also supported. With the help of Chromecast, you can broadcast what is happening on the screen of your computer or smartphone to your TV.

TV software Xiaomi 4s 55 ′

The third advantage of the device in question is the software based on the Android operating system, the same as that of smartphones from the same Xiaomi company, similar to which the OS is hidden under its smart PatchWall shell. Its very essence has not changed. The PatchWall system is based on the study of statistical data adapted to viewers in accordance with the Xiaomi program.

For all that, whatever the choice of the viewer, the system, according to its capabilities, will try to remember it, so that, upon subsequent activation, display content on the display that would correspond as much as possible to the interests of the user.

Exterior design and assembly of the Xiaomi Mi 4s 55 ′ TV

The main advantage of the device is its design. The flat panel TV is 4.99mm thick and at its thinnest point at the base is only 48mm. If the device will be installed on a table, the base, the depth of which is 216.5 mm, can be attached separately.

TV control

To interact with this device, you can use a traditional remote control from a distance or give it commands via a smartphone. To do this, you need to install the appropriate application with the Mi Home Xiaomi software on it.

A big plus for this device is the presence of a voice control function. The remote has a microphone. It can also be used to control other devices that are part of the Xiaomi system. smart home.

The voice control system is highly intelligent and can support a variety of user commands. You can tell this device, for example, to turn off after half an hour or rewind the image in the opposite direction for 10 minutes, etc.

Xiaomi 4s TV review

Of course, this TV does not have the best characteristics, which, given its low cost, does not matter at all. With a 55-inch screen, this device offers a little more in relation to its price.

LCD display

The second feature of this TV model is a practical frameless screen. Xiaomi TV 4s 55 ′ comes with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel with 3840×2160 PC resolution and 8ms latency. In this case, the refresh rate is 60 Hz, and the maximum viewing angle is 178 °. This series of TVs is equipped with Direct-Lit dynamic backlight with automatic adjustment according to the image on the screen. The device has an integrated eye protection function. By default, this mode is disabled and activated manually. If you have any problems with this device, we recommend that you contact the service center (for example, https://remont-televizora.by/brand/Xiaomi). Specialists will quickly, and most importantly, competently be able to fix the problem.

Productivity and sound

The Xiaomi TV 4s 55 ′ is equipped with a quad-core Amlogic processor with an additional Cortex-A53x4 core with a clock rate of 4.8 GHz. Also included is the Mali-450 GPU, which comes with 2GB of 4th generation DDR4 RAM and 8GB of internal flash memory.

The 8W speakers installed on the device have excellent sound characteristics. Each of them supports Dolby audio and DTS audio format. These parameters are sufficient for any room.

of the Xiaomi 4s TV review, we will try to answer the question: “To buy or not to buy?”. This apparatus is the entrance to the future. It is available to everyone. The device does not have extreme performance. Both software and hardware qualities do not differ from other Xiaomi products. It is endowed with the functions necessary for full use. There are no reasons that could contribute to the abandonment of the purchase.

Xiaomi Mi 4S TV Review: Profitable 4K

Our colleagues tested a 43-inch Xiaomi Mi 4S TV with Ultra HD resolution, which is offered at a very competitive price. from 22,000 rubles.

Best quality for your money

Xiaomi with its products has long been the leader in the ratio of “. This is a very good price, since TVs of similar quality usually cost 10-15 thousand more.

Picture and equipment

Given the low price tag, what picture quality can the new TV offer? If you believe the model’s specifications, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision can be used in the HDR range. but in practice, the picture quality cannot be compared with more expensive and advanced devices. However, for those who do not care about the HDR level, the image will be quite pleasant.

The maximum brightness of 463 cd / m2 does not reach the level of the best devices, but, in general, this is a good indicator. In addition, since Xiaomi has abandoned Dimming technology, the black areas of the image are never completely black.

The color rendering of the Xiaomi Mi 4S is at a good level, but with its own shortcomings. The standard RGB color space, corresponding to Full HD Blu-ray, is almost completely covered by the TV, with our measurements showing 99%, which is a good level. But users, of course, will not get full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, because the result of the Mi 4S here is only 86%. Because of this, the Xiaomi model cannot compete with more expensive HDR TVs.

You may notice that the white point on the display has a noticeable blue tint. And the viewing angle is typical for a VA-LC display, that is, it is seriously limited. If you look at the display from the side, you will see a rather hazy picture.

In our subjective tests, the TV also performed quite averagely. For example, in Blu-ray benchmarks, details are poorly visible in dark scenes. As a PC monitor, the TV is also not very suitable due to the fuzzy display of the font. In addition, it has a very long response time of 73 milliseconds.

Ultimately, Xiaomi is quite a good TV, especially thanks to the Ultra HD resolution and a very competitive price, but it falls short of the quality of home theaters.

Equipment

For the sound in Xiaomi Mi 4S, there are two 8W speakers without a subwoofer. At high volumes, minor background noises such as rattling and squealing are noticeable. But we had to test TVs with significantly worse speakers, so the Xiaomi sound can be considered average. sometimes better, but there is no need to complain. If possible, we recommend using external speakers, such as a soundbar.

The operating system of the smart TV is Android TV, which gives you access to a wide range of applications. Popular streaming providers and media players are supported, as well as major video and audio formats. TVs that are officially released for the Russian market are immediately preinstalled with applications of domestic streaming services. An interesting feature of Xiaomi’s Smart TV is the ability to search for movies and TV series at once among all platforms, and not separately. The only downside to Android TV is there is no direct support for Apple AirPlay.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • very convenient Android TV, clear menu, easy content search;
  • high-quality voice search;
  • ergonomic Bluetooth remote control. Smartphone control;
  • low cost for a 4K TV.

Appearance

Dimensions. 964 × 606 × 233 mm (with stand), thin aluminum frame. She looks reliable and beautiful. But the frame is not monolithic, the matrix inside is slightly loose. For wall mounting, there is a mount. VESA standard 400 × 225 mm.

The TV weighs 7.6 kg. The stand is represented by two legs. They do not inspire much confidence, very light. only 0.1 kg.

Screen

Diagonal. 42.5 ″ (108 cm), resolution. 3840 × 2160. Supports 4K UHD, HDR. TFT IPS matrix allows for high-quality color reproduction, provides deep black tone, wide viewing angles.

Brightness. 220 cd / m 2. By this indicator, the TV lags behind Thomson T43USM5200 and Philips 43PUS6503 (350-360 cd / m 2). The brightness is definitely not enough, although the display quality depends on the video source. The screen is glossy. It is very reflective. When viewed from an angled perspective, the surface is almost mirrored. This should be taken into account when determining where to install the TV so that the sun’s rays do not fall on the screen.

Contrast is mediocre. 1200: 1. Pixel response time. 8 ms. This is already enough for games. But Thomson with 6.5ms response is much better in this regard.

The frame refresh rate is 50 Hz, just like the competition. This is a typical indicator that provides passable smoothness of frame changes when displaying action scenes. But Philips has a 900Hz Picture Performence Index, and Thomson has 1000Hz. These TVs are smoother, with no tearing or jerking when watching, for example, a sports match or action scenes, which Xiaomi does not.

The LEDs for the backlight of the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S 43 are located behind the screen and are evenly placed over the entire surface. Because of this, the TV does not have a thin enough body, but the backlight is the most uniform, the appearance of side flares is excluded or you can reduce the brightness when viewing with a deviation from the center.

Functions

Smart TV on Android provides access to various applications and content. The main menu offers featured content, unseen movies, and downloaded paid apps.

PatchWall is a feature of Xiaomi TVs. It’s a wall of content that doesn’t end there. Here are new movies, recommendations of popular films, TV channels (viewing via Wi-Fi). Content is provided by streaming services and online cinemas. In this case, the user first selects a movie, and then determines the content provider in the list. Movie recommendations become personalized over time based on user preferences. In the PatchWall search, you can search for films by actor name. The disadvantage of search is dialing with buttons on the remote control, which is very inconvenient (voice search here for some reason does not work).

The Google Assistant is a voice-based search assistant. It works correctly. Xiaomi TVs provide 6-month subscriptions to several popular cinemas: Megogo, ivi.ru, 24chasaTV, etc. And Google Play has a large set of applications.

Has 8 GB of internal memory. Plays most formats: MP3, WMA, MPEG4, HEVC, MKV, JPEG. For comparison: Thomson T43USM5200 does not read WMA.

Chromecast technology displays files from a computer or smartphone on a large screen. It is possible to control from a smartphone via the “Mi Remote”.

The remote control is small, modern and functional. Has only a few buttons, but each is required. It does not provide buttons for settings or exit to any specific menus or applications. But they can be easily accessed through the main menu, PatchWall, or using the Assistant. The remote control does not need to be pointed directly at the TV, as it works via Bluetooth.

Connectors

Xiaomi Mi TV 4S 43 has a sufficient number of connectors: AV, component, 2 HDMI, 2 USB, Ethernet, coaxial output, headphone and CI interface. There is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi. Thomson and Philips have one more HDMI and Miracast.

On the bottom of the TV, there are two 6W speakers located at a great distance from each other. The sound is spacious, but there is not enough bass. The volume is not very high, but it is enough for watching movies or programs. For comparison: Thomson has two 8W speakers, Philips. 10W each. Dolby Digital, DTS decoders give realism and greater depth to the sound.

The TV displays 4K quality content well, but in terms of brightness and color rendering it is inferior to competitors: Thomson T43USM5200 for 24 thousand rubles and Philips 43PUS6503 for 30 thousand. It loses a lot when displaying dynamic scenes, does not allow achieving excellent smoothness. Has a quiet mediocre sound (no bass). But Android TV provides great opportunities, it has a clear interface, a simple menu. Voice assistant, a small remote control with a minimum of buttons, a smartphone application make operation convenient.
