How to tell if your iPhone or iPad needs a battery replacement
Built-in iOS functions or third-party programs will help you.
As with any mobile device, autonomy is very important for the iPhone and iPad. Every year, user requests are growing, use cases are expanding, and the capabilities of batteries in mobile gadgets remain the same due to the ever decreasing thickness and weight.
Complaints about insufficient battery life can be heard from many users, but how do you know if the battery of your device needs to be replaced or if you are just using it too actively? This will be discussed further.
Determine the cause of the discharge
We need to determine where the charge goes: whether background processes and services “eat away” it, or whether the discharge is caused by a decrease in the battery capacity due to wear and tear. It’s pretty easy to do this through the built-in battery statistics feature. Starting with iOS 7.0, we have not only meager usage and expectation figures (although there are enough of them), but even detailed statistics on applications.
The bottom line is that in standby mode, the iPhone and iPad should not be discharged, which means that the waiting time from the statistics menu should be significantly longer than the usage time (despite the fact that the device is at rest).
If your waiting time is equal or almost equal to the usage time, then there is background activity of applications or services, which is the cause of the discharge. It is worth checking the apps from the list and their access to content updates, geolocation, and more. Here are some more helpful tips for you.
iPhone Maximum Battery Capacity. What You Should Know
If everything is in order, and the battery still holds very little even with sparing use, go to the next point.
Discharged or not
This will sound trite, but first you need to understand whether the device is discharging itself or you are discharging it. To do this, simply refrain from active use for a while and observe the charge level. It is best to fully charge the device and leave it overnight, after taking a screenshot with the charge level at the current time. Do not forget to also turn off notifications to exclude the possibility of a discharge due to a lot of push notifications.
Check the charge level in the morning. If it has not changed or dropped by a couple of percent, then everything is fine with the battery and the accelerated discharge is caused by active use. If the charge has dropped by more than 10%, something is still discharging it. In this case, go to the next item.
Testing the battery
The problem is almost certainly the wear and tear of the battery, which is inevitable with prolonged use. In the process of charging and discharging, the capacity of the battery decreases. In the iPhone, it drops to 80% after 500 recharge cycles, the iPad can withstand twice as long. 1000. Find out how much the maximum battery capacity on your device has decreased. If the fall is too large and the current autonomy does not suit you, it’s time to change the battery.
If your device has been updated to iOS 11.3, then you can find out how much its battery capacity has decreased over the entire period of operation, without additional programs. To do this, open the section “Settings” → “Battery” → “Battery status”. The device will show the current value of the maximum capacity as a percentage of the original.
If your device has an older version of iOS, you can check the battery status using the free Battery Life Doctor app. Launch it and click Details next to Battery Raw Data. in the next menu you will see the Design Capacity parameter. The current maximum battery capacity will be displayed next to it as a percentage of the original.
Another way to check the battery status is in iBackupbot for macOS and Windows.
Download the program from the link, open it, connect the device to the computer and click Information. We are interested in DesignCapacity (initial maximum capacity) and FullChargeCapacity (current maximum capacity). It remains to calculate the difference yourself. If it turns out to be too large, consider replacing the battery.
What to do next
75-80% of the factory capacity is still not fatal and you can live with it calmly, but if such autonomy is not suitable for your use case, then you will have to replace the battery.
It is better to do this in official or trustworthy services. If you decide to replace yourself, then do not buy suspiciously cheap batteries and keep in mind that, unlike the iPhone 4 / 4s in later devices (and all iPads), the replacement procedure involves a complete disassembly of the device, which requires appropriate skills.
And further. Before going to the service center, try to calibrate the battery. It helps many, but trying is not torture.
How to check battery wear on iPhone
IPhone Standard Tools
IOS 12 introduces a new feature in testing that allows you to see the current state of the battery.
Checking iPhone battery wear
To make your smartphone battery last longer, you need to follow simple guidelines that will significantly reduce wear and tear and extend the lifespan. And you can find out how rationally use the old battery in the iPhone in two ways: using standard iPhone tools or using a computer program.
IBackupBot is a special iTunes add-on that allows you to manage iPhone files. Of the additional capabilities of this tool, the section for viewing the status of the iPhone battery should be noted.
Please note that iTunes must be installed on your computer for iBackupBot to work.
- Download the iBackupBot program from the developer’s official website and install it on your computer.
- Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable and then launch iBackupBot. The smartphone menu will be displayed in the left part of the window, in which you should select the “iPhone” item. A window with information about the phone will appear on the right. To get information about the battery status, click on the “Information” button.
Thus, if the indicators “DesignCapacity” and “FullChargeCapacity” are close in value, the smartphone’s battery is normal. But if these numbers are very different, you should think about replacing the battery with a new one.
Any of the two methods given in the article will give you comprehensive information about the condition of your battery.
How to calibrate iPhone battery and why you need it?
Hello everyone! The iPhone has a lithium-ion battery, and these batteries are not known to have a memory effect. Then why calibrate them at all? The fact is that the capacity of the battery drops over time (how to check its current state) and if you have had the phone for a long time, then in the absence of battery calibration, strange things begin
It happens that the iPhone “does not understand” what the current battery capacity is and cannot correctly display information about the battery charge level. As a result, various non-standard situations occur: an unexpected shutdown by 20-30%, freezing of the charging indicator (long display of one value), incorrect data is shown about how charged the iPhone is and other disgrace.
By the way, although in this article I write everywhere about the iPhone, this method of battery calibration is great for other Apple equipment: iPad and iPod.
But first, let’s summarize the signs that clearly indicate that the iPhone battery needs to be calibrated.
- iPhone shuts down when there is still charge percentage. It would seem that he still has to work and work, but he bang and turned off.
- In some cases, calibration will help those users who run out of battery very quickly. True, this is just one of the methods of dealing with an instantly discharging smartphone.
- If the iPhone freezes for a long time at one percent of the charge, and then the indicator sharply “jumps” by several tens of percent.
- It is advisable to perform calibration every 2-3 months for absolutely all iPhone and iPad users. If you’ve never done it, now is the time!
At least one of the described cases is your situation?
Then read on and learn how to properly calibrate the iPhone battery.!
- Wait until the device is completely discharged. It is entirely and completely (absolutely, “to zero”, so that it is not included at all).
- We put it on charge (preferably from the network) and do not touch it (of course, you can answer an urgent call, but you do not need to play and use). We wait until it is charged to 100%.
- We leave connected for another hour or two. What for? For reliability! After all, the iPhone does not show charging correctly? Wrong! So, you can’t trust him. And despite the fact that the screen displays 100% charge, the battery may not be fully charged! Therefore, to be sure, after reaching 100%, we do not turn off the plug immediately, but wait at least another hour.
- Disconnect from the network and do a hard reboot. To do this, press and hold two keys. Home and Power on, until the apple icon lights up on the screen. Updated! This combination of buttons does not work for all devices. How to be? Here is a detailed instruction on how to Hard Reset any iPhone.!
- We use the device until it is completely discharged.
- We repeat this procedure 2-3 times.
As you can see, there is nothing super complicated. And the only “narrow” moment is time.
But there’s nothing you can do about it, battery calibration is not a quick thing.
Important! When you start doing the second loop, you do not need to recharge your iPhone for a short time! The circuit should be exactly like this. from 100% to 0%, then to full charge without interruption, charged, hard reset and discharged to 0% without recharging.
Only then will the calibration be truly correct and will benefit your iPhone’s battery.
How to check the battery life of an iPhone or iPad using a computer?
There are many programs that can give us all the information we need about the battery. These are the famous iTools, iFunBox and many others. However, they are heaped up with various functions (sometimes very unnecessary), and we only need battery statistics! Therefore, in this case, I advise you to use iBackupBot. the desired function is also not the main one in it, however, the minimum size of the program and a simple interface speaks in its favor.
- Install and run the program.
- We connect the phone to the computer. To connect correctly, you need to unlock your iPhone or iPad (if a password is set on the screen, then enter it) and in the dialog box that appears, click “Trust this computer”.
- In the lower left corner we see the name of the device, click on it, then. information.
- In the window that opens, we immediately see all the information about the battery.
Since all the inscriptions are in English, I will give a small decryption of the data obtained:
- CycleCount. the number of complete recharges of the battery.
- DesignCapacity. the capacity that the new gadget originally had.
- FullChargeCapacity. current capacity.
- Status: Success. general characteristics of the battery at the moment.
As you can see, my iPhone 5S’s capacity dropped by only 150 mAh in 2.5 years, and this is a very good result! In fact, it is almost new. How did you manage to achieve such indicators? I just know how to properly charge my iPhones and iPads, try it too. there is nothing complicated there.
How to find out the real (at the moment) battery capacity in iPhone and iPad
Greetings! There can be a variety of reasons why you need to check how much battery capacity is left on your iPhone or iPad. A similar need may arise out of simple curiosity: for example, I was wondering. do I need to go to change the battery of my old iPhone 5S? Or is she not so bad yet?
Also, such a procedure is of great importance during the purchase of a used device. After all, the seller can simply deceive. to say that the battery holds exactly as much as it should. And even show usage statistics (you can easily wind it up), but in fact, half of the capacity has already been lost there. How to find out the truth about the state of the battery. is it bad or not? Nobody will wait a few hours to check! There are easier and faster ways. let’s talk about them, let’s go!
Important note. We get all data about the battery for free, without jailbreaking the device and other jailbreak. Cool? Not that word!
Apps that will tell you everything about the battery status in an iPhone or iPad
Unfortunately, no one is safe from the situation when a computer is not at hand, and it is necessary to check the battery life of an iOS device here and now. Various applications from the App Store can help us with this. The best part is that you do not need to jailbreak the device and install a jailbreak. everything happens without it.
At the time of writing this article, a huge number of programs (about 15-20) have been on my iPhone in one way or another related to the battery. And only in one of them all the data (charge cycles, actual capacity, etc.) were shown for free, immediately after installation and without any additional purchases.
Meet Battery Life. App Store download link. Install and run. Click in the upper left corner. the settings open, we are interested in the menu item. Raw Data. And we can clearly see all the information (also displayed in real time!).
- Battery Charge. the indicator means how much the battery is currently charged and how much it can charge as much as possible.
- Capacity. current \ standard battery capacity.
- Cycles. number of recharge cycles.
The attentive reader will notice that the data for my device is slightly different for different checks (using the computer and the application). How so?!
Firstly, this difference is really small. an error of 3-5%. And secondly, this is completely normal. since different programs use different algorithms. And besides, the battery of my iPhone 5S works for a long time (almost 2.5 years) and, as it seems to me, it is impossible to accurately analyze its use over such a long period of time.
Total: the check can be carried out by any option presented in the article. the general “picture” of the battery life of your iPhone (iPad) will be immediately clear. To get the most plausible values - use both methods, and choose the average of what you get.
How many charging cycles does an iPhone last?
Each iPhone’s battery is rated for 500 charge cycles before it loses more than 20% of its capacity
The standard lithium-ion battery that comes with all iPhones, regardless of model, is rated to retain 80% capacity after 500 full charges. It turns out that even if you discharge the smartphone to zero and charge it every day, at least one and a half years must pass before its autonomy begins to decrease. When the battery reaches 80% and below, performance problems may begin due to the fact that the smartphone will forcibly cut down on the processor power in order to minimize voltage surges and not provoke spontaneous reboots.
It turns out that in itself, poor battery life is not a sign of wear and tear. It is possible that the iPhone runs out prematurely due to software glitches that only Apple can fix, or due to excessive load that you create yourself. Games, editing and watching videos over LTE are quite resource-intensive processes that can provoke increased energy consumption. This means that it is not unusual for a smartphone to run out of power if you are stuck for a couple of hours in World of Tanks Blitz or another game with three-dimensional graphics and special effects.
How to know if iPhone is dropping power
Therefore, it is better to focus on reducing the processor power. If you’re not sure if your smartphone’s performance is really starting to suffer, go to Settings> Battery> Battery Health and check if Performance Management is enabled. If not, then everything is in order with the battery and does not require replacement. The fact is that performance management is turned on only after the first unexpected shutdown of the smartphone, which occurs precisely due to a lack of capacity. This is the best litmus test for determining whether a battery needs to be replaced. It turns out that the reason for replacing the battery is either a drop in performance, or its reaching a capacity of 80% or less.
The performance management feature is only available on iPhones starting from the 6s model, and therefore it is useless to search for it on earlier devices. However, it can happen that even new iPhones will not be able to determine the remaining battery capacity or activate the performance management function. This is usually accompanied by a comment that the smartphone was unable to determine the battery status on that smartphone. In this case, it is recommended to contact the service center (by the way, you can replace the battery on the iPhone here), even if you do not experience problems with autonomy, since the battery in your iPhone may be either non-original or installed in violation of Apple requirements.
At what capacity do you need to change the iPhone battery to a new one?
AppleInsider.ru is in many ways a fan project. Most of our audience uses the site on an ongoing basis and even formed their own community in Telegram. There, readers communicate with the authors and founders of the project, ask each other questions of interest and receive advice on using Apple devices. However, there is at least one question that has not ceased to be asked for several years now. is it worth changing the battery if its residual capacity is XX%. To be honest, at first we honestly answered everyone who was interested in this topic, and when we got tired of it, we decided to write this post.
It is not difficult to understand that the battery needs to be replaced. Here’s a detailed breakdown.
The very concept of battery wear in relation to Apple technology appeared not so long ago. No, of course, the batteries of the company’s devices wore out before, just no one informed users about this and they had to focus on their own feelings. The iPhone has begun to hold a charge half as much as it should be. which means it’s time to change. However, since the wear control mechanism appeared in iOS, everyone immediately wondered if it was time to replace the battery with a new one. over, this question is asked not only by those whose residual capacity is less than the conventional 80%, but also by those who have barely approached 90%. Well, here’s what Apple thinks about it.
Longreads for you
“How do I clean Airpods?”. this question we are asked quite often. And they also ask: “Why did the headphones stop working after cleaning ;?”. So that you do not get into unpleasant situations, we will tell you how to do everything right
Apple still managed to develop its own in-screen fingerprint scanner, and it may appear already in the iPhone 13. over, Apple’s scanner is significantly different from what Samsung and other smartphone manufacturers use.
Owners of some iPhone 12s noticed that their smartphones began to run out of power ⚡️ in standby mode, losing up to 50% of their charge overnight. Apple refuses to repair them, motivating the refusal by the absence of defects and breakdowns
_n_A_p_A_g_O_k_C_, Personally, I have 6S, bought half a year / a year after its “announcement”.
The battery did not change, “the maximum capacity is 76%”.
It’s a pity there is no information about how many charge cycles my phone has gone through. But if we assume that MINIMUM 1.5 per day (earlier it may be less often, but now there are 3 times /.) for 3.5 years mmm 1916 cycles (MINIMUM)!))
The phone does not hold a charge “from the word. at all”.
Leaving the house “on business” with 100%, without “sticking” in YouTube, games, social networks and the navigator (and without music), does not give me any confidence that in 3 hours my phone will not go out! Basically, use in this case will be without any special loads: “WhatsApp”, calls well, and perhaps “a little” Internet browser.
I never understood these% “logically” the capacity of my battery should be 40 percent)) but “no” 76)))
So keep in mind. 2000 cycles is not the limit))
Only work in the office, a cigarette lighter in the car, and presumably a quick update will save you!)
Although it is possible and I will look like another year!))
Since, in fact, everything I need from a phone, I have everything!
1) Bokeh? There is an application that from this year makes good photos “in it”, without the need for a second camera, and to allocate something for “blur”
2) Night mode? There is a program that well mimics the capabilities of 11 iPhones))
3) Speed? After switching to iOS 12, there are no problems with this.!
4) Battery? I have already described how I cope with this my “problem”, but the “nakraynyak” replacement costs “a penny”.
5) “Ponty”? Well, this)) I’m more amused when my subordinates walk with new iPhones, drive a car better than mine, but at the same time regularly ask me for a loan)))
6) New emotions? Here I have nothing to say against! ((Starting with ” X”, I agree the size is 6S, but the screen and gestures Probably this is the only thing that captivates me that is, I was stupidly tired of my phone format over these years of use!. of course, all of the above is naturally better)))
How to Check iPhone Battery Status: Official Apple Solution
However, in the iOS settings, there is still a section Settings → Battery → Battery status, which contains information about the current state of the iPhone battery (in detail).
What is a Charge Cycle and why it matters?
One cycle is when you discharge your iPhone from 100% to zero. This can be done in one go or in several. Example: the battery is 75% discharged in a day. You charged it to 100% and continued to use it. One recharge cycle will end when you use up another 25% of the charge (yesterday’s 75%, today’s 25%).
What are we for? The iPhone battery naturally has a resource. After 500 full recharging cycles, the battery capacity of the “apple” smartphone will decrease by 15-20%. In practice, 500 charging cycles is 1.5-2 years of smartphone operation. After about 3-4 years, the battery capacity will correspondingly decrease by 50% from the value that the iPhone had out of the box. Then it makes sense to think about replacing the battery. after all, you will probably notice that your iPhone, for example, no longer “survives” until the evening and brings you down at the right time.
How to find out the number of battery charge cycles on an iPhone
Go to Settings → Privacy → Analytics & Improvements.
Activate the Share for iPhone and Watch feature if it is disabled for you.
Please note that if you previously disabled this function, then you will be able to receive the required information about the state of the iPhone battery only the next day. After all, it is this option that enables the device to collect specific information for its subsequent sending to Apple. A disabled function simply does not allow the collection of the required information. Only a day after activation, the device will save technical data for analytics.
A page will open where you need to find lines of the typical form log-aggregated-date-xxxxxx.ips. Obviously, the name contains the date the log file was created. You will need the line with the most recent of all.
Scroll through the opened document about 2/3 (slightly more than half) and find the necessary word BatteryCycleCount in the text. The number located immediately below BatteryCycleCount between the words integer will indicate the exact number of charge-discharge cycles of your battery. In our case. 259.
If you could not find the BatteryCycleCount string directly on the iPhone, send this document to your computer, open it using Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac. Using the search, it will not be difficult to find the text BatteryCycleCount.
How long does an iPhone battery “live”, how to count charge cycles and when is it time to change the battery
What is the battery life of an iPhone? In this article, we will tell you about the type of battery installed in the iPhone, how to assess its condition and how to properly charge it.
What type of batteries are installed in the iPhone?
Each iPhone comes with a lithium-ion battery. They have enough advantages over “traditional” batteries: they charge faster, work longer, weigh less.
How the iPhone battery is charged?
Battery recharging consists of two phases. During the first. from 0 to 80%. the battery is replenished with energy quickly (the exact charging time depends on whether the device is used, settings and other factors). The second. from 80 to 100%. is called compensation, it “weakens” the electric current and thereby allows you to extend the life of the iPhone battery.
Is it possible to find out the number of charge cycles passed directly on the iPhone?
Over time, you may start to feel like your iPhone is starting to run out of battery faster. It may be time to contact a service center and replace the battery. But has it really exhausted its resource? There are applications that allow you to find out the number of charge cycles, but they are mostly designed to view this information on a computer. In other words, you will have to connect your smartphone to your computer and use special utilities.
Unfortunately, Apple does not officially provide data on iPhone charging cycles, although such data can be easily viewed in the company’s laptops. But there is a way that few people know about, find out the number of charge cycles directly on the iPhone. We will tell you how you can do it.
Why you need to know the number of full iPhone charging cycles?
This information can be useful to the buyer when buying an iPhone hand-held, as well as to determine the current state of the battery, in the event of, for example, its intensive discharge.
How to check iPhone battery status?
If you went to this material, then surely your iPhone does not hold a charge for long and you charge it at least twice a day. Or, it often turns off in the cold at the most inconvenient moment, even when the charge level is about 40%.
To understand how bad everything is and whether it is worth worrying about a replacement, you just need to carry out one of the actions, which I will now list.
Checking with built-in iOS functions
On March 29, 2018, the long-awaited iOS 11.3 update was released. Along with it came a feature that was associated with the scandal over the slowdown of old iPhones.
So if you have already installed iOS 11.3, then we do the following:
- open Settings and scroll down until we find the Battery;
- select the item Battery status;
- we see the Maximum capacity field and if you have at least 60%, then you can relax for now, but already think about replacing in the near future.
Settings. Battery. Battery status. Maximum capacity
You’ve probably seen the second “Peak Performance” field as well. So, when everything is really bad with your battery, the phone will send you a notification that an understatement of performance is turned on.
This, in fact, will be the bell for replacing the battery. Thus, Apple killed all the applications that did the status check function, but they may still come in handy. Read on.
How to check iPhone battery health?
At the moment, a modern smartphone is primarily judged by two criteria: the camera and how long the battery lasts. The first moment improves from year to year, but with batteries it is problematic, especially on the iPhone.
Indeed, literally after a couple of years of use, the operating time of the device is reduced very significantly and you already need to think that you need to do something about this. This is especially felt by people who live in countries with cold winters.
Therefore, let’s figure out exactly when to change and how to check the condition of your iPhone battery. With some updates to the operating system, it is much easier than it used to be.
Check with third-party programs (if iOS is lower than iOS 11.3)
Not everyone wants to upgrade from iOS 10 to their old iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 for this feature. We all know how it works and it is better to stay on an older version of the operating system.
Sooner or later, you may still need to check the status of the battery, and in this case, we do the following:
- install ourselves an application like Battery Life (or something similar);
- we open it and the state of your battery is written to you.
If everything is fine, it will simply say “Excellent” and the button will be green. Yellow, still not so bad and red. when to change.
It weighs a little and is free. If you buy a paid version, it will also show the number of charging cycles. But it’s up to you to decide.
What is iPhone battery health
iOS 11.3 and later have a Battery Status menu. Just go to Settings Battery Battery Status. Here you will see information about your iPhone’s maximum capacity as a percentage and peak performance. You can also see if your iPhone is slowing down due to Apple’s performance management feature.
Loss of battery capacity even a week after purchase. this is normal. The main thing is that it does not reach 80%.
IPhone X Battery Health. 3 Years After Purchase
But what will happen if you do not let go of the iPhone at all. If you add to this Smart Battery Case, the battery would have to be changed already.
As you can see, the capacity of the battery may decrease unevenly. That is, it may well fall to 98% a week after the purchase, hold at this level for a while, and then decline to 94%. It all depends on the factors below. If you use only original chargers and use your smartphone in normal mode, there should be no problems, and the battery capacity will decrease more or less evenly. For example, in one year, 5% of the capacity will “go away”, in the second year. another 10%. And this is the norm.
What will happen to the iPhone 7 battery in 4 years
What will happen next? For comparison. the iPhone 7, which is almost 4 years old. The battery has only lost a fifth of its capacity.
What affects iPhone battery health
Some people may notice that the iPhone is rapidly decreasing its remaining battery capacity. What does it depend on? There may be several reasons:
- Charging with non-original adapter, resulting in more wear.
- Using iPhone at peak power (if you play it all the time and never let go of it). Games, editing and watching videos over LTE are quite resource-intensive processes that can provoke increased energy consumption.
- Charge your phone in your car or wirelessly without Apple certification.
Using a Smart Battery Case also affects iPhone battery capacity
What Percentages Mean in iPhone Battery Status Menu
Apple admitted two years ago that it deliberately slowed down older iPhones like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone SE. In this regard, back in iOS 11.3, a menu appeared in which you can see the status of the iPhone battery and find out if it needs to be changed. After that, they began to ask us in the Telegram chat several times a day whether it is worth changing the battery if its residual capacity is 80%, 70% or even 50%. Therefore, we decided to finally put an end to this issue.
Many people get scared when battery capacity begins to dwindle
What Percentages Mean in iPhone Battery Status Menu?
In the Battery Status menu, you will see a percentage indicating the maximum battery capacity of your iPhone, followed by a message explaining the performance status of your phone. The message you see depends on the percentage of the capacity. For instance:
- one hundred%. Your battery is currently maintaining normal peak performance.
- 95%. This iPhone shut down unexpectedly as the battery was unable to provide the required peak power. Performance management has been included to help prevent this from happening again.
- 79% or less. Your battery is significantly degraded.
- Unknown. This iPhone cannot detect battery status. Usually this message appears when installing a poor quality battery in questionable service centers.
iPhone with less than 80% capacity. The battery has already swelled
Why older iPhones are slower?
Why did we get such a menu at all? Apple said it had no goal of forcing customers to purchase a new model. It’s just that over time, lithium-ion batteries gradually lose the ability to store energy and work in low temperatures, which, in turn, can lead to spontaneous shutdown of the smartphone to protect the hardware. The feature is actually useful, but Apple hasn’t offered any alternative before, and many iPhone owners have suffered from it. In a sense, it was “foolproof”. so that the user does not overload his iPhone if the battery is already running on its last legs (the old people will remember how it ended for the Galaxy Note 7).
Apple agrees to pay 500 million to slow down older iPhones
All cars are different, they exist as the smallest class “A”, up to, say, class “E” or “D”. executive sedans. The characteristics of the machines are different, from start-up to subsequent consumption by the on-board network. After all, the volumes of engines will differ significantly.
So for small and “light” small cars, a battery of 40. 45 Amperes. an hour is enough for the eyes, but for large and powerful sedans you need 60. 75 Amh.
It’s all about the starting current. the larger the battery, the more lead, electrolyte, etc. That allows you to accumulate more energy and give more of it at once. So let’s say in the 40A version, the starting current will be about 200. 250A, which, he can give 10 seconds. for a small engine, this is enough, say, up to a volume of 1.0. 1.2 liters. But this may not be enough for large motors of 2.0. 3.5 liters, here the starting current should be 300. 400A, which is twice as much. It should also be borne in mind that winter start-up is even more difficult. you need to turn not only the pistons, but also thick engine oil.
Therefore, you can put large batteries on a small car, but small ones on large cars are undesirable.
Drop in capacity
Over time, the battery degrades, that is, the capacity begins to drop. For conventional acid batteries, the service life is approximately 3. 5 years (there are, of course, exceptions, they work for 7 years, but this is rare).
The capacity drops, and the battery can no longer deliver the required starting current, say, 200. 300A in 10 seconds. Accordingly, the time comes to change it. But why there is a degradation process, there are a lot of reasons:
This is actually the end, I think the information was useful for you. Read our AUTOBLOG.

What is battery capacity. Car or phone, how and what is measured
The most important parameter of almost any battery is its capacity! After all, it depends on it. how much energy it will give out during a certain time. And this is not necessarily a car battery, all batteries have this parameter, starting from the “finger” ones that you insert into your camera or player, ending with cell phones. In general, it is very important to know and correctly understand this parameter! Especially for a car, because if you take the wrong capacity, then there may be problems with starting the engine in cold weather, and it may also simply not be enough for your on-board network. In general, we will understand
The capacity of the battery is the amount of energy that the battery can give, at a certain voltage, in a certain period of time (often a typical hour is taken). Measured in Amperes or Milliamperes per hour.
According to this characteristic, you choose a battery for your car, because often the manufacturer recommends a particular value for the normal functioning of the car. If you underestimate this parameter, then most likely cold starts will be complicated.
Housing and capacity
The capacity directly depends on the amount of lead and electrolyte in the structure. It is clear that the more of these materials are used, the more energy the battery can store. That is why the options for 40 and 75A will differ by almost two times, both in size and weight. That is, there is a direct proportional relationship.
Small cars themselves are small cars, their engine compartment space is meager, and therefore it is simply not rational to put a “huge” battery! And why? If the small option does an excellent job, it starts the engine.
How the battery capacity is determined?
On many car batteries (and on simple household ones too), we often see such a parameter. 55, 60, 75 Amh (English Ah).
On ordinary telephone lines. 700, 1000, 1500, 2000 mAh (thousandths of an Ampere). This parameter just denotes the capacity of the battery. It should not be confused with another parameter such as voltage, as we know, the normal for many auto batteries is 12.7V
SO. what do these 60 Amh (Ah) mean?
Everything is very simple. this abbreviation tells us that the battery can work for an hour with a load of 60 Amperes and a nominal voltage of 12.7V. This is the capacity, that is, it is able to accumulate such a supply of energy.
However, these are the maximum values, 60 Amperes is a very large current, if you translate it into watts, it turns out. 60 X 12.7 = 762 watts. Enough to warm up the electric kettle several times, or light up the whole house for several days, provided that you have LED lamps, which often take only 3-5 watts per hour.
I hope this is understandable, I just want to say that if the load is not 60 Amperes, but let’s say 30, then the battery will work for two hours, if 15. 4 hours, if 7.5. 8 hours. I think this is understandable.
But that’s why some cars have a capacity of 45 Amperes, others have 60, and still others should be equipped with 75A options.?

I have calibrated my iPhone battery. Did it help or not?
There are many tips on how to increase the capacity of a tired battery and normalize the display of% charge in iPhone.
Most often, it is advised to calibrate the smartphone with a series of simple steps. I tested the magic trick on myself and I hasten to share the results.
The role of the test subject was played by my iPhone 7. The number of charging and discharging cycles has already exceeded 750. According to Apple’s recommendations, the battery in it had to be changed 250 charges back, but it still works quite normally.
Testing the most popular battery revitalization tip
Experts recommend two steps to calibrate the iPhone battery: a preparatory step and a calibration step.
First you need to disable resource-intensive tasks
️ Preparatory stage. At the preparatory stage, you should disable the most energy-consuming processes on the iPhone. This must be done so that the smartphone does not turn off by 10-20% of the charge, and we managed to discharge it to zero.
First you need to disable automatic content downloads in the “Settings” menu “iTunes Store and App Store”.
Next, turn off the background content update in the “Settings” “General” “Content update”.
After that, you need to turn off geolocation in the “Settings” “Privacy” “Geolocation Services”.
In the end, it is best to lower the brightness of the iPhone screen to the minimum value.
A smartphone with a stale battery can turn itself off if there is not enough power, so it is better not to overload it.
The easiest way to drain your iPhone is with movies
️ Calibration phase. At the calibration stage, the iPhone needs to be discharged to full zero and recharged to the maximum level at least a couple of times. For reliability, I did it 3 times.
▪️ To discharge the device to zero, the easiest way is to set the video to repeat in VLC and wait until the smartphone turns off.
After that, it is better to wait a couple more hours for the internal processes to discharge the iPhone to zero. I left the device with the video overnight.
▪️ To charge the device for real 100%, you need to connect it to the power supply, wait for the cherished hundred to appear on the indicator, and then wait another couple of hours.
As with discharging, I left the iPhone on charge overnight so that it could be fully charged.
I repeated the charging and discharging procedure exactly three times: I completely discharged it during the first night, charged it for the second, and so on.
To show the result, experts usually use the data of the coconutBattery application.
5 Tips for Longer iPhone Battery Life
Updating iOS is not scary today
? Update your iOS sooner. A couple of years ago, Apple was accused of deliberately slowing down the iPhone using new versions of the operating system.
After that, the company is attentive to updates and regularly optimizes each subsequent.
iPhone can and should be updated. It is best to turn on “Auto-update” in the “Settings” “General” “Software update”.
? Normal accessories. Cables and power supplies of unknown origin are contraindicated for long battery life.
At the same time, to charge your iPhone, you can safely use the power supply not only from the iPad, but even from the MacBook (we are talking about USB-C).
High and low temperatures are your enemy
? Be afraid of the temperature. iPhone is best charged and used in temperatures between 0 ° C and 35 ° C.
Any stress load in conditions that go beyond these limits can be harmful to the battery.
? Charge without a case. Many models of cases (especially non-names) contribute to overheating of the battery.
If you notice your iPhone is getting hot while charging, remove the case first.
? Store your iPhone properly. If you do not use your iPhone for a long time, keep the energy in its battery at about 50%.
It is best to check its level every couple of months.
Wasted time. Battery performance unchanged
The program shows changes, but they are not really there
Before starting the procedure, I recorded the values in coconutBattery: the battery state is about 83%, the maximum capacity is 1631 out of 1960 mAh.
After the procedure, the numbers in the application really increased: the state of the battery is about 88%, the maximum capacity is 1724 out of 1960 mAh.
It would seem that it’s time to clap your hands and run to write the most positive conclusions.
But instead, I began to observe the data that coconutBattery produces for a couple of minutes.
The miracle app surprised me: the battery health percentages jumped by different values in the range of 80-90%. Therefore, there can be no question of any accuracy in this case.
Instead, I will use a more realistic source of information that can be trusted. “Battery Status” from the “Settings” “Battery” menu:
And it was, and there are 87%.
The maximum battery capacity is 87%, it was the same before the experiment and remained the same after it.
This confirms two facts:
▪️ There is no point in calibrating the iPhone battery. we’ll see this a couple of times later.
▪️ Third-party apps do not have access to real iPhone battery data.
If you are not satisfied with the battery life of your iPhone, and the number of its recharge cycles has exceeded 500, replace the battery
Humble yourself, this is a consumable, and it gradually breaks down every second.
Apple doesn’t even recommend calibration itself.
Battery controllers are calibrated during production
In the past, Apple did advise periodic battery calibration of its devices. Most likely, it has been since then that this concept has remained in the minds of experts.
However, it never had anything to do with the iPhone. Device controllers with built-in battery are calibrated during production and do not need any additional manipulations.
Only devices with a removable battery need to be calibrated: MacBook and MacBook Pro prior to 2009, and iBook and PowerBook.
IPhone battery controllers keep track of them securely
How the controller controls iPhone charging
iPhone has excellent control over the charging of its battery, which takes place in two stages: charging in fast mode and trickle charge mode.
▪️ Charging in fast mode. First, the iPhone loads its battery as much as possible and brings the energy inside it to 80%.
Charging times vary depending on the power source you are using: Standard PSU, iPad PSU, Power Delivery Mode with MacBook PSU and Lightning to USB-C Cable.
At the same time, the controller monitors the temperature and reduces the charging speed if it reaches critical values.
▪️ Trickle charge mode. The remaining 20% of the battery is charged at reduced amperage, and the energy level inside it reaches 100% gradually.
This is necessary so that the battery is worn out as little as possible. Therefore, even my iPhone 7 with 750 recharge cycles today feels quite normal and even shows “Peak Performance” of the battery.
As a result, calibration will not help you, but there are some tips:
▪️ Do not try to revive a dead battery, replace it instead if it does not already show “Peak performance” in the “Settings” “Battery” “Battery status”.
▪️ Don’t trust third party battery testing software. Connect iPhone to Mac and turn on the famous coconutBattery: the values in it are constantly changing, so it blatantly lies.
▪️ Follow the rules for using the iPhone: update iOS, use normal accessories, monitor the critical temperature and charge level when storing your smartphone.
On this topic, with the calibration of the iPhone battery, I propose to consider it closed. Of course, I will be happy to hear any counterarguments, but I doubt that there will be such.
