Touch ID not working. crash
If Touch ID fails, then a simple reconfiguration is recommended to deal with this nuisance. In other words, you need to retrain your iPhone (or iPad) to recognize your fingerprint. Since the appearance of scanners, Apple has regularly updated their software so that smartphones and tablets of users remember the “fingers” of their owners longer and better.
It seems like a radical optimization was carried out back in iOS 8, but, as practice shows, if you do not refresh the print, then over time (from a month or longer), Touch ID will fail anyway, but it happens. The reasons can be very different, but, as a rule, they are purely cosmetic in nature: slight “wear” of the print itself, dry skin of the finger, etc.
Therefore, if Touch ID suddenly malfunctioned, then first update the fingerprint in the memory of your smartphone or tablet. But first, you should carefully wipe the surface of the scanner and wash your hands. Next, go to “Settings”, then. to “Touch ID and Password”. We delete old prints by swiping across the screen from right to left. After that, we tap “Add a fingerprint” and re-carry out the standard procedure for entering a fingerprint according to the instructions.
Touch ID doesn’t work at all
Of course, the likelihood that the fingerprint scanner is out of order also exists. Although users complain about such breakdowns relatively rarely. If, after updating the fingerprint, Touch ID did not work properly, then you can try “hard reset” by creating a backup. If the problem is programmatic, then a hard reboot should fix it. Otherwise, you will have to visit the service center, since it is unlikely that you can do without qualified diagnostics.
Touch ID does not work in winter or in cold weather
Statistics show that in low temperatures, the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone and iPad is more likely to fail. The problem, again, in most cases has a simple explanation. The fact is that in cold weather the papillary pattern of the fingers changes. It is difficult to notice these changes with the naked eye, but Touch ID notices them and starts to malfunction. As you probably already guessed, a nuisance is also treated by updating the fingerprint. But you can do even easier and enter a special “winter” fingerprint into the device’s memory. scan your finger pattern immediately from the cold. True, they say that both methods only partially solve the problem, but it’s still worth trying.
Touch ID does not work in the App Store
This is also a notable problem. Most often, the reason that the scanner stops working with the App Store is also a cosmetic factor, but often the problem occurs due to software malfunctions. Some users complain that since iOS 8.3, Touch ID is simply not displayed in the App Store.
In such and similar cases, we do the following:
- click “Settings”. “Touch ID and Password”;
- in the “Using Touch ID” section, disable “App Store, iTunes Store”;
- restart the iPhone (or iPad);
- we return to “Settings” again. “Touch ID and Password” and turn on “App Store, iTunes Store”.
After that, the Touch ID bug in the App Store should resolve itself. We also remind you that if you haven’t made any purchases in the App Store within 24 hours, the system will ask for a password at the entrance.
If Touch ID Doesn’t Work on iPhone or iPad: How to Deal with the Problem
Touch ID is the official name for the fingerprint reader, which is equipped with smartphones iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as tablets iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro. Apple claims that the newer version of Touch ID is installed in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models, and on the forums, users claim that Touch ID often does not work, both the “old” and the new.
Touch ID is, of course, a useful solution, moreover, not only from a marketing point of view, but also from a purely practical one.
Users can use it to unlock their iPhones and iPads, log into accounts in various online services, and even pay for purchases using Apple Pay.
But only if Touch ID works fine. But, unfortunately, like any other electronics, this one is also sometimes capricious. Therefore, let’s figure it out.
To begin with, we note that if problems with Touch ID on your Apple device began after a recent update of its operating system to iOS 9 and / or even newer versions of it, then, most likely, a downgrade may be needed (i.e., a rollback of the system to the previous version), or, if the problems are not so critical, then it is better to wait for the next update.
With other problems of the fingerprint scanner in iPhones from 5s and newer, as well as in iPad mini 3, mini 4, Pro and Air 2, you can try to figure it out, so to speak, on your own and even at home. Fortunately, there are not many such problems, and the ways to eliminate them are already known. So if:
Touch ID does not work when dirty or wet
Well, there’s really nothing to explain here. It is clear that moisture or dirt (whether it is on the skin of the finger or on the surface of the scanner) is very effective in preventing any fingerprint from being scanned. Therefore, if the scanner has excess substances of a wet and / or dirty look, it is better to wipe it with a dry, clean cloth. And you need to wash your finger (you can even wash it with your hands). However, you should not overdo it with water, because if you keep your hands in water for a long time, the fingertips will wrinkle and the papillary pattern will change for a while. Apple claims that in the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Touch ID works better with wet skin, but still the manufacturer does not recommend using the scanner with wet hands.
When you turn on your new smartphone for the first time, one of the preset steps is to turn on Touch ID. If you skipped this step, then find the scanner settings in the main settings, in the “Touch ID and Password” section.
After you enable Touch ID, the system prompts you for a four-character password for added security. The password will be required in the following cases:
- The device has rebooted.
- The scanner did not recognize the fingerprint five times.
- The device was inactive for more than two days.
- New prints have been registered or existing prints have been deleted
- When you open the “Touch ID & Password” section.
- The parameter “Password request” is set to “Immediately”.
After entering the four-digit key, tap “Add fingerprint”. Make sure your finger and home button are dry. Holding your smartphone the way you always do, touch the Home key.
No need to press, just touch. Then lift your finger up and back down on the button. Make sure your finger is covering the Home button completely by touching the metal bezel.
Change the position of your finger with each touch for a more complete print. Take your time. quick touches will reduce readability, wait for vibration.
Adjust the capture on the next screen. Take your device as you normally would when unlocking. Use your fingertips, not the center.
The scanner can memorize 5 prints in total. It could be your 5 fingers or the prints of other users whom you trust iPhone. If you save one fingerprint in several slots, then the speed and accuracy of recognition will increase.
If the fingerprint fails, check the date and time. they should be set correctly. Sometimes a factory reset or factory and content reset helps.
When performing these operations, do not forget to make a backup in advance so as not to lose personal information and files.
How to set up Touch ID on iPhone and iPad
In this article, I raise the question of how to calibrate and set up Touch ID on an iPhone or iPad.
The Touch ID fingerprint scanner was introduced to the public in 2013. Starting with the iPhone 5S, all Apple smartphones are equipped with a fingerprint sensor that allows you to unlock the device and make purchases. But to use this feature, Touch ID must first be set up correctly.

Calibrating the Home Button
Since the fingerprint sensor is built into the Home button, how the protection function will work depends on its correct operation. However, some iPhone owners are faced with an unpleasant situation: after a certain time after buying a smartphone, the Home button begins to respond to user actions with a delay. To eliminate the flaw, you need to calibrate the button.
- Launch the built-in application. Weather, Clock, etc.
- Press and hold Power until the Power Off slider appears on the screen. do not touch him.
- Press the Home button for 10-12 seconds until the running application exits.
If the Home button is physically damaged, it should only be replaced at an Apple Authorized Service Center. This is due to the fact that when unauthorized access to the sensor is detected, the smartphone is “overexposed”. This is the so-called error 53, which became widely known in early 2016 after the next iOS update.
Apple representatives explain that this is a security measure. if your phone is stolen and attempts to get to the fingerprint scanner, the iPhone will stop working.

However, ordinary users who accidentally damage the Home button or replace it in an unauthorized service center do not feel any better. Therefore, it is better not to risk it and pay a little more than buying a new smartphone instead of a “brick”.
How to set up Touch ID if your device is already activated
You can configure the Touch ID sensor and save prints in the processor’s memory, if the device is activated, through the basic settings. To do this, go to Settings and in the main menu select “Touch ID and Password”. Next, you need to select the “Fingerprints” item. Then the system will offer the procedure already described above for registering and saving fingerprints.
Using Touch ID instead of entering a password and for App Store purchases
Once you’ve set up the Touch ID sensor and entered your fingerprints into your iPhone‘s processor, you can use your fingerprint to unlock your device (instead of entering a password), as well as an identification tool for App Store and iTunes Store purchases.
To unlock your iPhone using Touch ID, wake up your device by pressing the Power button or Home button. After that, gently bring your finger to the Home button without pressing it, and the phone will unlock.
If Touch ID fails to recognize the fingerprint within three attempts, you will be prompted to enter the password that was set when setting up Touch ID. It is also worth noting that the Touch ID sensor is disabled and a password is required if:
The device turned on after reboot
2. than 48 hours have passed since the device was last unlocked
3. You want to go to the “Touch ID and Password” item in the device settings
To use Touch ID as your Apple ID (for purchases and downloads in the App Store and iTunes Store), you need to go to Settings, select “Touch ID and Password” and activate “iTunes Store, App Store”.
Next, to make purchases, go to the iTunes Store or App Store, select an application, song or video; then click “Download” and the system will display a request to scan the fingerprint.
Gently bring your finger to the Home button, then the purchase will be made. Note that a fingerprint scan request will be requested every time you try to download content from the App Store or iTunes Store. If the sensor fails to recognize the fingerprint within 5 attempts, you will be prompted to enter your Apple ID password.
How to set up Touch ID
If you just bought a device, then going through the standard activation procedure at the first start, you can immediately set up Touch ID. To register a fingerprint and add it to the Touch ID database, you need to take a few simple steps. Immediately, we note that the device can store up to 5 fingerprints, which are stored in a special memory compartment of the central processor.
Before setting up Touch ID directly, we recommend that you thoroughly wash your hands and, most importantly, your fingers, as well as thoroughly wipe the Home button on the device. it is in it that the Touch ID sensor is built. Only then can you start setting up.
Before setting up the Touch ID sensor, you need to come up with and enter a four-digit or complex password. It will be prompted if Touch ID is unable to recognize the fingerprint.
Hold your iPhone the way you normally hold it when you press the Home button. Place your finger on the Home button and hold until you feel a slight vibration or until the system tells you to remove your finger. Don’t press the button hard, just touch it lightly.
After the initial scan, the recognition system will ask you to change the position of your finger to complete the scan. Hold the phone as usual and place the edges of your finger so that the system can fully recognize the fingerprint.
How to set up Touch ID on iPhone 5S, iPad Air 2 and later
Touch ID. first introduced with the iPhone 5S, it is used as an additional security feature of the iOS operating system and as a means of user identification. The essence of this technology is that a special biometric sensor is built into the Home button, which allows you to read the user’s fingerprints and use them instead of a password to access the phone, as well as to make purchases in the App Store and iTunes Store.
As mentioned above, Touch ID was first introduced in the iPhone 5S, but it is expected that this year the biometric sensor will appear in the new iPad Air and iPad mini, and, of course, in the new generation of iPhone, which is expected to appear in the second half. 2014 year. At the same time, most likely, the new devices will also use the new generation of the Touch ID 2 sensor with improved recognition technology and, possibly, support for additional functions.
How to make Touch ID work better
Some users with Touch ID have complained about inaccurate recognition of their fingerprints by the system. There are a couple of easy ways to improve the accuracy of your fingerprint identification using Touch ID.
The Touch ID processor memory can store up to 5 fingerprints. To make the recognition of the finger that unlocks the device more accurate, you can do the following: assign the same fingerprint to different memory slots. That is, in fact, you need to “scan” one finger several times, as if they are different fingers. Thus, the accuracy of your fingerprint recognition can be increased up to almost 100%.!
Keep the Home button clean to keep it free of dust or moisture. The accuracy of fingerprint recognition directly depends on the surface of the sensor, therefore, naturally, if there is grease, dust or dirt on it, the accuracy of fingerprint recognition is noticeably reduced.
Make sure your device has the latest software. Apple may programmatically make changes and enhancements to native iOS functionality. For example, iOS 7.1.1 officially introduced improvements to Touch ID, making fingerprint recognition more accurate and smoother.
After updating the software, we recommend that you delete all registered prints and add them again to make Touch ID as accurate and convenient as possible.

You can activate Assistive touch in your device settings. To do this, go to “Settings”, then go to the “General” item, select “Universal Access” there and then scroll down a little. in the section “Physiology and motor skills” select “Assistive touch” and turn it on.
After switching on, a translucent button will appear on the device screen, when pressed, the user gains access to the main control functions and their own elements, the configuration of which we will discuss further.
How Assistive touch works?
The transparent button that launches Assistive touch functions can be moved around the screen and positioned where it will be convenient for you to use it. When you press the button, the first menu opens, consisting of the items “Siri”, “Device”, “Home” and “Favorites”. On devices that do not support Siri or devices where the voice assistant is disabled programmatically, instead of the “Siri” item there will be a “Gestures” item.
Pressing the “Siri” button, as you might guess, initiates an instant launch of Apple’s voice assistant without having to go into settings
The item “Home” means pressing the central Home key, respectively, when you press the on-screen button, the device will react exactly as if you had pressed the Home button. If you double-click the Home soft button, the operating system launches the multitasking bar. Thus, if your device does not work well or the “Home” button does not work, this function will be very useful for interacting with the device.
The “Device” item is a submenu that contains several buttons that replace some standard actions and controls:
What is Assistive touch on iOS and how to set it up
Assistive touch. This is a function of accessibility and control of the device using gestures with one or more fingers, thereby quickly accessing applications or controlling device functions without going into settings. Assistive touch can also be very useful for those users whose device buttons do not work correctly or do not work at all.
While Assistive touch was first introduced in iOS 5, many users often ask questions about what it does and how you can customize it. This is what this article is about.
Custom gestures in Assistive touch on iPhone and iPad
Assistive touch allows you to create your own on-screen gestures that will be launched on the system with a click of a virtual button. They are available in the “Favorites” menu, you can also add new gestures directly from there by clicking the “”.
Making a gesture. the process is intuitive. On the screen, use a finger to hold a certain gesture that will indicate any movement on the screen (for example, a gesture from bottom to top will indicate scrolling vertically). Then we press the “Stop” button and assign a name to the new gesture. All: then, by pressing a button through the “Favorites” item in Assitive touch, the operating system will play the recorded gesture.
Please understand that gestures in Assistive touch. this is a rote iOS movement on the screen, which the user plans to repeat more or less regularly. That is, instead of playing a gesture every time, you can record it, and the system will play it every time you select this gesture in the Assistive touch Favorites menu. just select a point on the screen, which will be the starting point of the recorded movement.
Unfortunately, at this time you cannot assign Assistive touch gestures to launch any programs or perform a predefined sequence of actions. Perhaps, in the future, this feature will be available to iPhone and iPad users. Then the use of the quick access panel will become relevant not only in the event of a malfunction of certain buttons of the device, but there is no way to repair them at the moment.

What is Touch ID on iPhone and iPad?
Having learned how to check an iPhone for originality, and having performed a series of related simple manipulations, the owner of the device will most likely protect his confidential data, and also make it easier to unlock the application menu. Both can be done using the Touch ID feature. What is it and how to set up Touch ID correctly. let’s try to figure it out.
What is Touch ID?
Touch ID is a default feature in Apple products that allows you to:
- unlock iPhone or iPad with one touch of your finger;
- ensure the protection of data stored on the phone, as well as restrict access to certain applications or services;
- make purchases in the App Store without entering your account password.
The operating principle of Touch ID is simple. A mini-scanner built into the “Home” button, during setup, captures volumetric fingerprints of the owner of the iPhone, and then, with subsequent touches, verifies the received data with the data available in the database. Thus, a stranger, with almost one hundred percent probability, has a different set of fingerprints, simply cannot unlock the iPhone and use the information stored in it. including photos, audio, video recordings, email addresses, and so on.
Important: using Touch ID, it is impossible to unlock Apple ID, log in to iCloud and other branded online services. the function is used on each device separately and protects a specific iPad or iPhone, not a user account.
Touch ID works on iPhone 5S and iPad and Air 2; second-generation sensors with improved accuracy and minimum overruns are available starting with iPhone 6S and iPad Pro 10.5, respectively. Since Touch ID is a physical device, not a purely software device, owners of older iPhones and iPads will have to set up a passcode for security purposes. fortunately, this is easier than unlinking an iPhone from Apple ID.
How to set up Touch ID on iPhone?
Setting up Touch ID on a device that supports this function is as easy as putting a ringtone on an iPhone. The user needs:
- Open iPhone Settings and go to Touch ID & Passcode.
- Wait until the request appears on the iPhone or iPad screen to put your thumb on the “Home” button and follow the instructions. first, simply by touching the sensor, and then completely “rolling” your finger over the button: this will allow you to get a volumetric, most accurate scan of the fingerprint. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the fingers. a total of five slots are available.
- The iPhone owner, who thinks that one or more scans were unsuccessful, can delete them by tapping on the corresponding heading and pulling to the left, and then clicking on the “Delete” button. Then you can create a new scan. or be limited to the existing slots.
- Fine! Fingerprint images via Touch ID received. Now you need to configure the order of their use. In the same section, the user must move the top slider that allows unlocking the iPhone to the “On” position.
- And then, if necessary, similarly enable the use of Touch ID to work with the App Store and iTunes Store.
Important: in order to disable the Touch ID function, you should deactivate both sliders, and then delete all fingerprint scans saved in the iPhone or iPad memory.
If after some time the Touch ID sensor stops working properly, it is worth restarting your iPhone and then disabling and re-configuring this feature. Did not help? The problem may be in the device itself. Then the owner should, without delay until the sensor is completely out of order, take the phone to the service center and replace the Touch ID.
