Select a ringtone. Method one
First, let’s look at the classic way of setting a ringtone. through the settings menu. We go to the phone settings, go to the “Sound” section and select the “Ringtone” item.
Before us is a list of standard melodies pre-installed in the smartphone by the manufacturer. On some devices, you can select your own composition directly from the same menu. For example, on the HTC One (M8) smartphone, which is used as an example in this article, this is done by the “” icon located in the upper right corner of the screen.
If there is no special button for choosing your own melody in this menu, you will have to act a little more cunningly. And just put the desired audio file in the folder where the system sounds are located. after that it will appear in the list of standard melodies.
To do this, you need to connect your smartphone to the computer using a cable, click the “Start” button on the computer, select the “My Computer” item and find the icon of your smartphone in the folder that opens. This is what we need to open. Most likely, it will look like this, and its name will coincide with the name of the phone model. On some smartphones, to transfer data, you need to unlock the screen (relevant if you have set an unlock password).
We are interested in the “Media” folder. Inside it should be the “Audio” folder, and in it, in turn, the “Ringtones” folder. Thus, the full path to the folder of interest looks like this: \ Media \ Audio \ Ringtones. It is here that you should copy the melody you need. If there are no such folders in the internal memory of the smartphone, then they must be created. The main thing is to do it exactly in the order indicated above.
To be sure, you should restart your smartphone. That’s it, now the melody you have selected will appear in the general list. In a similar way, you can set a melody for the alarm, only the path in this case will be slightly different: \ Media \ Audio \ Alarms

It will open and you just have to select the ringtone that you have thrown and at the top / right click “Done”. It’s all.
How to set a melody to SMS in Samsung a50
Putting a melody to SMS on Samsung a50 turned out to be not so easy. The manufacturer, both with calls and contacts, did not provide for such a tool.
So I had to resort to outsiders. The solution was found in the application “Rings Extended”. It is available in the market.
After installation in the application, in front of the line “Current ringtone” put a bird and select the item “Media rington”
You will discover all your tunes that are only in your Samsung a50. Select the required one, put a tick and “OK”.
It’s all. You have delivered your favorite SMS ringtone. You can also change it to another one in the same way. It turned out. great. And if not? Just write in the comments and you will soon get a solution.
Of course, over time, the version of Android may change and with it the settings, but that’s another story. Those interested can find out in more detail from the video lesson below. Success.
How to set a ringtone in Android
In today’s article I will tell you how to set your own ringtone for your Android device in just a couple of steps. This is as easy as setting your own SMS ringtone. This can be done in several ways: using the built-in player, through the file manager and through the standard device settings. At the same time, despite the fact that OS versions and launchers on different devices may differ, the method of installing your own ringtone or SMS on Android is almost always the same, regardless of the firmware, shell or custom launcher.
Method two: Setting a ringtone through device settings
So, the first thing you need to do is go to “Settings”. This can be done both from the retractable curtain and through the main menu of the device. Next, go to the “Sound” item and look for the “Ringtone”, “Ringtone” tab, or any other variations. If the smartphone works with two SIM cards, then you will need to select the item to change the melody of the desired SIM.
Here you can select any of the built-in melodies, as well as music files that you dropped into the folder with general sounds.
To select an arbitrary file on the memory card, click on the item ” ringtones” or “Music on the device” or similar. The system will offer to select an application through which a new ringtone will be selected (usually a list of players available on the smartphone or a file manager appears), or it will immediately build a list of melodies found on the memory card. Find a track and choose a melody for your call.
The third method: Installing music for a call through the file manager
We present this method for owners of devices with old versions of the OS, since in new versions of Android this function has been made a system function. We go to the menu of our device and open the file manager. In almost all cases, it is called Files, File Manager, or My Files. If you wish, you can use a third-party file manager. For example ASTRO File Manager or ES file manager. most of them support similar functionality.
We go into the folder with the music, select the track we are interested in and click on it, holding it for a few seconds, we will see an additional menu in which it is necessary to select the item “Use as a signal” or similar in meaning. In the absence of this item, you must click on the ellipsis, which opens an expanded list of possibilities.
The first method: Setting a ringtone through the built-in player
We go into the music player. usually it is called “Music” or “Player”, in the case of custom firmware it can be a third-party player, which is the main one. CyanogenMod, for example, uses the Apollo player, and EMUI. player of our own design.
We find a list of all the songs stored on the device, and select the song that we want to install on the call. Next, you need to call the context menu by long pressing on the desired song (or by calling the menu in the player) and select the item “Put on call”, or “Set as signal” or “Use as ringtone”, etc. After that, we select which signal we want to set the melody to, if the program offers it. Done!
On a note
Even now, there are devices in which it is possible to select a melody for a call or SMS only from standard melodies. But this is not such a big problem, everything is solved by installing one old and proven application on your smartphone. Rings Extended.
The sequence of actions does not change, except that an additional item appears in the list of methods for selecting a melody. Rings Extended. We press it, and then we already select a melody in any way available to the application. through the file manager, from a multimedia player, etc.
General device settings
To change the ringtone through the phone settings, you need to do the following.
Enter the “Settings” application through the shortcut in the application menu or the button in the curtain of the device.
Go to this item by tapping on it 1 time.
Next, look for the item “Ringtones” (may also be called “Ringtones”) and click on it.
This menu displays a list of built-in ringtones. You can add your own to them with a separate button. it can be located either at the very end of the list, or available directly from the menu.
Click this button.
Please note that not all file managers support the ringtone selection feature.
When using Sound Select, the system will display all the music files of the device, regardless of the storage location. For convenience, they are sorted by category.
How to set ringtone in Samsung Galaxy A50
The method described above is one of the simplest. In addition, it does not require the user to download and install third-party software.
Setting a melody to a separate contact
The procedure is slightly different if you need to put a ringtone on a separate contact. First, the entry must be in the phone’s memory and not on the SIM card. Secondly, some budget Samsung smartphones do not support this feature out of the box, so you will need to install a separate application. The last option, by the way, is universal, so let’s start with it.
Ringtone Maker allows you not only to edit ringtones, but also to set them both for the entire address book and individual entries in it.
Install the app and open it. A list of all the music files that are present on the phone will immediately appear. Please note that system ringtones and default ones are highlighted separately. Find the melody that you want to put on a particular contact, click on the three dots to the right of the file name.
Very simple, and most importantly, fits all Samsung devices. The only drawback is that the app shows ads. If Ringtone Maker does not suit you, the ability to put a ringtone on a separate contact is present in some of the music players that we reviewed in the first part of the article.
Setting your ringtone in Samsung
There are two ways to set your own ringtone on your Samsung phone. Let’s consider them in more detail.
This method is also quite simple, however it is not as obvious as the previous one.
- Open the standard phone application for making calls and go to the dialer.
- The next step is different for some devices. Owners of devices in which the left key brings up a list of running applications should use the button with three dots in the upper right corner. If the device has a dedicated “Menu” key, then press it. In any case, such a window will appear. In it, select “Settings”.
- In this submenu we need the item “Calls”. Go to it. Scroll down the list and find the Ringtones and Key Tones option.
Selecting this option will open the next list, in which you need to tap on “Call melody”. A pop-up window for selecting a ringtone will open, the actions in which are similar to steps 4-8 of the first method.
Note also that this method is unlikely to work on third-party dialers, so keep in mind this nuance.
Of course, the desired goal can be achieved by means built into the firmware, but we repeat that on some smartphones of the budget segment this function is not available. In addition, depending on the version of the system software, the procedure may differ, although not much.
The easiest way to do the desired operation is using the “Contacts” application. find it on one of the desktops or in the menu and open.
Next, enable the display of contacts on the device. To do this, open the application menu (a separate button or three dots at the top) and select “Settings”.
Then select the “Contacts” option. In the next window, tap on the item “Show contacts”. Select the “Device” option.
Return to the list of subscribers, find the one you need in the list and tap on it.
Clicking on the “Ringtone” item leads to a call to the application to select a ringtone. Media Store is responsible for standard ringtones, while the rest (file managers, cloud clients, music players) allow you to select a third-party music file. Find the program you need (for example, a standard utility) and click “Only once”.
Find the desired ringtone in the list of music and confirm the selection. In the contact editing window, click “Save” and exit the application.
Done. the ringtone for a specific subscriber is installed. The procedure can be repeated for other contacts, if the need arises.
As a result, we note that it is very easy to set a ringtone on Samsung phones. In addition to system tools, some music players also support this option.
