What is screen rotation on iPhone

IPhone Auto-Rotate is an option that allows you to use vertical or horizontal screen orientation. For example, when watching movies, it is much more convenient to use the horizontal mode. Reading books and browsing social networks is carried out through vertical orientation. By default, the screen will always flip when the smartphone is tilted. This feature is not only for Apple products, but also for other devices.

What the auto-rotate icon looks like on iPhones

The action is based on a device. a gyroscope. With the help of special elements, information about a change in position is transmitted to the working area of the phone. Then a pulse is read and the screen is rotated. If necessary, you can lock the automatic flip and then the screen will be in one position.

The option allows you to rotate the screen 90 and 180 degrees

How to enable auto-rotate on iPhone and iPad

Initially, the screen will rotate automatically from the very first turn on, since the settings are by default. In some programs or games, orientation rotation is not provided, so the picture will always be shown in the same position, regardless of the device settings. This is due to the application code that has been programmed to lock the turn.

Note! In normal cases, turn inhibit must be manually activated. The action of this mode will be indicated by a special icon in the menu bar of the iPhone or iPad.

  • Open the main menu of the device.
  • Raise the curtain with notifications with a swipe up.
  • In the window that opens, find the lock icon and click on it.

As a result, auto-rotate will work again and the screen can be rotated in the required direction.

Modern iPhones have a function in the “General” section that can change the operation of the switch on the side of the gadget. By default, this button is responsible for activating and deactivating the sound. However, it can be set to “Orientation Lock”.

If the switch is in the “Orientation Lock” mode, then you cannot work with auto-rotate through the “Control Center”. In this case, all actions are carried out using the switch.

Setting screen orientation on iPhone

Screen rotation on iPhone needs to be adjusted to suit your personal preference. Not everyone likes the automatic mode, since at the slightest turn of the smartphone, the orientation of the screen changes. For example, reading a book lying on the bed, turning on its side, the smartphone screen will also unfold. It is convenient to use auto-rotate when a person often watches a video. In this case, the orientation quickly changes to horizontal and there is no need to do a series of adjustments every time. If screen rotation is off, the phone will work in one screen mode until the user turns off the function.

Note! Some apps have a separate layout for landscape orientation (mail, calendar, messages, photos).

On iPad devices, the option may work differently depending on the model. For owners of the iPad version lower than the iPad Air, you need to know that the regulation of the function is carried out through the basic settings. There is an item “Use side switch”. This section is responsible for controlling the rotation through the volume buttons. On newer models (iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4), auto-rotate can be configured through the Control Center.

Owners of smartphones version iOS from 4.0-6.0, in order to change the settings, you need to double-click on the “Home” button. As a result, the multitasking panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. Here you need to scroll the menu to the right to the button with the image of a lock and an arrow. With its help, the work of the auto-rotate is regulated.

How to turn off screen rotation on iPhone and iPad

You can make orientation lock in a few seconds through the main control center. The actions will differ slightly depending on the gadget model used.

For new iPads and iPhones, starting with the 10 and XR models, where there is no Home button, shutdown via the Control Center is suitable. You can call it by swiping down on the right side of the screen.

On iPhones S, SE, 7 and 8, you need to swipe up from the bottom to open the control menu

In the menu that opens, find the “Lock” section and click on it. It is located under the group of main settings. After the icon turns red, you can be sure that screen rotation is turned off. To disable the lock, you must repeat these steps again through the control point.

The above steps will help you always use your iPad or iPhone without accidentally rotating in one orientation. The lock allows you to enjoy portrait orientation even while lying on your side, watching YouTube or using a browser.

Note! If necessary, the user can always enable or disable automatic rotation through the standard settings.

Please be aware that the iPhone display cannot be locked in landscape mode. The iPad, on the other hand, can be locked in both landscape and portrait mode.

How to disable auto-rotate on iPhone in the form of detailed instructions:

  • First, you need to unlock your iPhone to open the main menu.
  • Moving from bottom to top brings up a panel with quick access to settings.
  • By clicking on the lock icon, you can enable or disable the rotation, depending on the desired action.

After pressing the lock, the control center will display the message “Vertical orientation off”. Depending on the position of the button, the red background may light up or go out. To check the function, go to any application and turn the smartphone.

Note! If you activate the auto-rotate lock in landscape mode, the background of the display will return to vertical mode.

You can remove the screen rotation through the AssistiveTouch item. This is a common feature that users use to customize buttons for specific actions. AssistiveTouch allows you to flip the orientation in different directions in apps that support this feature.

Note! Turn off the screen rotation lock before using AssistiveTouch.

How to quickly manage settings

Here are some of the settings you can access in Control Center.

Control Center Capabilities

For example, hard clicking on a music player tile opens a new window with volume sliders, play buttons, and other controls.

Additional settings appear after a long tap on the tile with the icons for airplane mode, Wi-Fi, cellular data (finally!) And Bluetooth. in this case, you will see AirDrop and tethering settings.

In addition, the updated Control Center allows you to record video from the iPhone or iPad screen, start the camera, as well as set a timer, start a timer and more (full list below).

Of course, Control Center is still not perfect. So, even now there is no moving objects using drag-n-drop and full customization of icons “for yourself”. But what we have is already a very big step forward; iOS users appreciated the return to a “one-page” design and the added customization options for Control Center. Particularly pleasing are the appearance of options such as power saving mode and quick access to settings for people with disabilities.

How to open Control Center on iPad?

Swipe down from the top right corner. To close Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

If you are not satisfied with any of the proposed options, you can still use the application by opening it using Siri or search. Yes, it’s not very good, but it’s better than nothing.

Daria On my new iPhone, the status bar at the top disappears. Is there cause for concern? How to fix it?

In the iOS settings, there is no way to turn off the display of a line with indicators of battery charge, signal strength and other icons. No third party app from the App Store can change the appearance of this item or hide it from the lock screen and home screen.

You can remove the status bar only if there is a jailbreak on the device. If your phone is not jailbroken (no jailbreak is installed on it, and there is no Cydia program among the applications), then the line should be in its place.

Occasionally, users activate the standard option to enlarge objects on the screen, which can display only part of its content. So some elements of the system may simply not be visible.

To turn off zoom, go to Settings. General. Accessibility. Zoom and turn off the first switch.

When activated, a three-finger swipe allows you to move the zoom area, and a three-finger double-tap on the screen toggles the zoom on and off.

Control Center gives you instant access to frequently used functions. You can use Control Center to quickly take pictures, turn on lights, control your Apple TV, and more.

Check if access to certain apps is restricted

Another reason why the icon on the iPhone can disappear is the limitation of the application. I note right away that if the application is really limited, you will not be able to find it using the search, just as you can use it. To check for restrictions on your device:

If restrictions are enabled, you will be prompted for a password. Hope you were the one who set this password to begin with. Enter your password and see which apps or features have been restricted.

Click on the toggle next to each item to disable the restriction and the app should reappear on the home screen.

Please note that only the following apps may be restricted: Safari, Camera, FaceTime, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, podcasts and news.

Reinstalling the app with the missing icon

Another way to get the missing icon back on the iPhone is to reinstall the app. Just like the previous method, this method has a drawback. you can lose all progress in the application if it does not support synchronization with the cloud server.

Why icons disappear on the iPhone?

Often, the reason for missing icons on the iPhone is not a technical error, but a human factor. However, before starting to search for the loss, make sure that only the icon is missing, and not the application itself.

To do this, use the search:

To activate Spotlight (or search, if you like), swipe down from the center of the home screen.

Enter the name of the missing app in the search box. After that, Spotlight will present you with a list of search results. The app should be at the top of the list, click on it to open it.

If the application appears under the heading “App Store”, it means that the application is not installed on your device. You can click on it, after which you will be thrown into the App Store to install the remote application.

By the way, you can also use the voice assistant. Siri, in order to open the application with the missing icon on the iPhone. It’s not very convenient, but you never know

Missing icon on iPhone? Reboot your device!

A universal solution to absolutely any problem related to iOS. If icons disappeared on the iPhone, rebooting will not always help (unfortunately), but it is very simple and does not take much time.

We will not talk about how to reboot the iPhone, since in fact everyone knows how to do it. For those who started using Apple products relatively recently, we will leave below a screenshot with a brief instruction and also suggest that you read the article: How to restart an iPhone.

How to customize Control Center

  • Go to the Settings menu Control Center.

  • Press and hold the three gray mowing lines next to the controls and drag them in the order you want.

The first way. At the control room

IPhone Control Center is a very handy program that gives you quick access to commonly used iOS functions. In this case, the user has the opportunity to customize everything to suit his requirements. You can add or change controls.

  • To open the “Control Center” in iOS 13 and newer versions, you need to swipe up from the bottom edge of your iPhone screen.

  • A window will appear in which you will be able to turn on the dark theme.

Alternatively, you can also go to Settings Control Center Customize Controls and add a dark theme on / off button to appear in Control Center.

The third method. At the stage of initial iOS configuration

If you have just become the owner of a new iPhone and are performing the initial setup of the system, then you can turn on the dark mode at this stage. This also applies to those cases when the user makes the iOS setting after restoring the factory state.

In this case, at one of the stages, the system will offer to choose a dark or light interface design. Opposite the desired one, you must check the box and click the “Continue” button.

Dark Mode on iPhone and iPad in iOS 13 and above: how to enable and configure

Dark Mode is one of the most popular and requested features on the iPhone. After enabling this functionality, which is available in iOS 13 and above, the elements of your iPhone screen change from bright whites to dark grays and blacks for a completely different visual effect. This step-by-step guide demonstrates how to enable the Dark Mode theme on iPhone. Also, the name “Night mode” has stuck among users.

Method two. In iPhone settings

You can also switch between dark and light modes of the iPhone interface in the standard way through the “Settings” menu. To do this, go to the “Screen and brightness” section. Then just select the desired color mode.

An example of work is shown below in the picture:

Setting the “Dark Mode” function for automatic scheduled switching

Apple developers have provided the user with the ability not only to activate the night theme in any of the above ways, but also to set the time for automatic on and off. This works by analogy with the mode called “Night Shift”.

To reduce the strain on the retina, you can set your own timetable for registration.

  • Go to iPhone Settings.
  • Find and open the “Display and brightness” section.
  • Select “Options”, and in it “Schedule Settings”.
  • Below there will be two additional items. “Light design” and “Dark design”. Opposite each of them there will be a field in which you need to select the time. For example, you can set a schedule so that the dark mode is activated automatically at 21:00, and the light mode at 08:00 of the time of day.
