To recover your photos or videos from your iPhone or iPad without using third-party tools, follow these steps:
Take your Apple iPhone or iPad and e = go to the “Photos” section;
After the above steps, the previously deleted photo or video data will be restored.
As I already said, the process of restoring photos and videos can be done not only from the device itself, but also using a special program iTunes. To use this method, follow these steps:
- First of all, you need to connect your iPhone or iPad mobile gadget to a personal computer with iTunes installed. If you do not have the program, then this method will not work for you, because you have not made backups before (in most cases, they are made automatically when you connect the gadget to iTunes);
- After connecting the device to a personal computer, you need to start (if it did not start automatically) the iTunes program;
- Now press CTRLB to make the side menu visible;
- In the side menu, click on the device icon to go to its main page;
Important: if the program previously backed up your iPhone or iPad, then you can easily recover all deleted data, photos, videos. If there are no backups, then recovery using this method is impossible.
Deleted files can also be recovered using special software. How to do this can be seen below.
Recover Deleted Photos and Videos on iPhone and iPad
Hello everyone, dear readers. Today I will tell you how and in what ways you can recover any photo or video materials deleted from your iPad or iPhone mobile gadget. This can be done in several ways. In this material, we will consider each of the methods in as much detail as possible, which method to choose is up to you. Options for how to recover any deleted photo and video data:
- From the device. You can recover a photo or video from the device itself. This is the easiest way that does not require additional tools and other things from you. I think you need to start restoring photos using this method;
- Using iTunes. This method will allow you to recover any deleted files on your iPhone or iPad, be it photo or video materials. This method is available if you have a backup of your mobile gadget (iPhone or iPad).
Also, you can use alternative methods of recovering any data erased from your mobile device. Watch this video to familiarize yourself with a special program for recovering data from Apple gadgets.
Another interesting tool to help you extract photos from your smartphone. We warn you right away that the program is available only in the English version and requires payment for the full version. Here’s what you need to do:
- Download the program and install it on your computer;
- Connect iPhone to PC and launch iSkysoft;
- Select Data Recovery and wait for the system to detect your smartphone;
- Select the types of files that you need to find (in our case, it is Photos) and click the Start Scan button in the lower right corner;
- After scanning, select the list of files and restore. You have 2 options: you can save directly to your iPhone or to your computer.
Advice! Here, as in the previous tool, there is a search for files from iCloud and iTunes backups.
Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery Program
I’ll tell you right away that the program is paid. Yes, you can use the free version as well, but it has certain limitations. Generally
This program provides several recovery options:
- From iTunes backup;
- From iCloud backup;
- From your device.
We are interested in the third option, since the other two require backup, and such operations are easily performed by Apple’s standard tools.
- Install Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery on your computer and launch;
- Connect iPhone and wait while the program detects a new device;
- Select the “Recover from iOS device” item, specify the type of files you will need to find and click the “Scan” button below;
- Within a few minutes, all files will be searched for according to the specified parameters (in our case, a photo), and if the data is found, a tab will appear in which you can restore everything with one click. At the same time, this procedure does not affect the rest of the information on your device.
Advice! You can also scan using the free version, but you can get the data already in the Trial version.
Recovery via iCloud service
The iCloud cloud service stores most of the information from your device, and if you already have a separate tariff for expanding the volume, for example, 50 GB, then it can even accommodate all photos, program data and other information. We advise you to check if there is a copy in this service or not. You can do this directly from your iPhone.
- Go to the “Settings” of the smartphone and click on the item “Accounts and passwords”;
- Go to the “iCloud” tab and select “Storage”;
- In this menu, you need to click on the “Management” tab and go to the “Backups” section. A list of all copies that have ever been automatically created will be displayed here. Also, the system will display the latest dates of copies so that you can understand whether there may be photos you need in it or not;
- If there is a necessary one among the backups, go to “Settings”, select the “General” item and click on “Reset”;
- You will reset all settings, as a result of which all data will be deleted from the phone! Remember this, so be sure to create a backup before starting the operation;
- Once the information is erased, the iPhone Initial State Setup Wizard appears. Here you will need to select the item “Recover from iCloud copy”;
- Connect to Wi-Fi, log in with your account and select a backup to restore. As soon as all the information has been downloaded, the device will restart and you can view all the photos.
Attention! This method is similar to the previous one, where the whole process is carried out through iTunes, only here everything is done from a smartphone, and the data is downloaded directly from the iCloud service.
Restore via iTunes
ITunes is a reliable assistant for Apple users, which solves a large number of tasks, despite its modest list of features.
If you previously created copies on your iPhone, then you can restore information using iTunes. It will extract data from the backup and restore it in a few clicks.
Attention! Not only photos will be restored, but also all other data, namely, programs, documents, music and other important information. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you create another copy before carrying out such a procedure so that it contains the updated information with all changes.
- Before connecting your smartphone, disable the “Find iPhone” option. Without disabling this option, you will not be able to restore data from the copy;
- Connect your iPhone to your computer, launch iTunes and wait for the utility to find a new device and display all the backups that are available to you;
- Click on the icon of your smartphone in the upper left corner of the program and click on the “Restore from a copy” tab;
- Select the backup that, in your opinion, contains exactly the set of photos that you need to return;
- Confirm the operation and wait for the system to finish restoring. Usually, this procedure takes about 5-10 minutes, but in general, the time depends on the amount of information stored in the copy;
- As soon as your smartphone turns on, check for photos in your library.
Advice! Since we recommended that you create another copy of the data with updated information before that, you can save all the photos from the restored backup to your computer or social networks, or, for example, drop it to Yandex disk. After that, you can repeat the recovery procedure again, only with a new backup. As a result, you will return all the data that you just had, and you can also re-save the photos.
EaseUS MobiSaver Program
The last tool on our list that does not support Russian. There are both free and paid versions. In the free version, you will have access to only a limited list of options, so if you have a large list of files to recover, you will need to pay for full access. The cost will be 60.
- Download the program and install it on your computer;
- Connect your iPhone and launch EaseUS MobiSaver;
- Once the system detects a new device, click on the Recover from iOS Device tab;
- From the list, select the device on which the data will be searched and click Scan;
- The system will automatically start the process and show you all types of data that can be extracted;
- Select the necessary files and click Recover.
Attention! This utility has one drawback. If in other products you could choose the types of information to be recovered in advance, here it is possible only after scanning, when the result is already in front of your eyes. This is not critical, but it takes several times longer.
Photo recovery through programs
All the methods that we described initially imply either surgical intervention, when 40 days have not yet passed since the date of deleting data or restoring from backups. But what if you have never created backups, and you really need photos? In this case, you will have to use “heavy artillery” in the face of specialized programs. We will consider several tools at once, which in our opinion are among the best:
- Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery;
- EaseUS MobiSaver.
Quickly Recover Photos on iPhone
Even if you erased photos, after a certain time they can be restored directly from your iPhone. For this purpose, the “Trash” is intended, where all deleted photos are stored. This option works with iOS 8 and higher. And here’s how to do it:

Option 3. How to Recover Deleted Photos and Videos from iPhone or iPad Backup
Don’t connect your iPhone to your computer just yet: we don’t want to risk a new backup being created, as that would overwrite an older backup which may contain your photos!
If the first two approaches didn’t work, don’t worry. If you are using Apple iTunes software, your device is backed up by syncing with it connected or over Wi-Fi. Both Windows PCs and Macs running macOS 10.14 or earlier can run iTunes. If you’re using macOS 10.15 or later, you won’t have iTunes, but you can still create backups using Finder.
Follow these steps to restore photos and videos from iTunes backup:
Download and install the free version of iPhone Backup Extractor on your PC or Mac. Don’t worry, we’re not trying to push you to do anything. We love it when people buy our software, but our free version has no ads or included software and has everything you need to check your backups without spending a dime.
Launch iPhone Backup Extractor and select your device under iTunes BACKUPS in the left column. At this point, you may be prompted for your iTunes backup password. Read our article on recovering lost iTunes password if you lost it.
Click Preview at the top of the screen. Scroll through the files in Photos to find the photo or video you want to recover.
Once you have found the file (or files, you can recover up to 4 files at the same time with our free version), click Extract in the lower right corner. Click Continue on the popup and your files will be extracted.
If you have manually moved your iOS backups from the default backup location, you can tell iPhone Backup Extractor about your alternate backup locations by clicking the button in the bottom left of the window. That will open the preferences pane, where you can add another backup search path. ?
For privacy reasons, iPhone Backup Extractor will only show backups that were created by the logged in user. If another user on a PC or Mac may have synced iTunes with an iPhone or iPad, ask them to sign in and install our software.
If you’re interested in the technical reason why some apps must store your data in their backups, we’ve published an article on the decisions and trade-offs that app authors must make. ? ?
Option 1. How to recover deleted photos and videos in the “Recently Deleted” folder on your iPhone or iPad

Open the Photos app from your device.
Scroll down to the bottom of the app to find the “Other Albums” section and select the “Recently Deleted” folder.

There are cases where content that has been purged from the Photos app is still forensically available to the Reincubate support team via the iCloud. The manual forensic recovery section below has more details on photo recovery, but while we love helping our users personally, it’s worth working through the rest of this guide to see if you can help yourself first. ️

If neither Preview nor Preview App View leads you to photos, the latter approach. try expert mode. This can be activated by selecting the “Expert Mode” tab. It provides a list of all the files contained in the backup, divided into folders to represent the structure of the iPhone. Most often, applications store their data in the Applications and Application Groups folders.
We have published a separate article on understanding expert mode, and where and how apps store their files. Check it out!
You will see that by viewing your application folder in expert mode, you will be able to drag and drop the files you want to recover from the iPhone Backup Extractor window to your desktop or to a folder of your choice.
But what if you don’t have a local iTunes backup and the backups don’t show up? That’s where iCloud comes in.
Option 2: How to Find Deleted Photos and Videos on Other Devices with iCloud Photo Library
You can use this step if you have more than one device in your iCloud account, for example:
- iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch devices
- macOS devices such as MacBook, MacBook Pro, or iMac
- Windows computers with iTunes and iCloud component installed and signed
If you don’t have another device from the list above, then you can use iPhone Backup Extractor to check your backups. We cover this in Options 3.6, below.
You also need to use the iCloud Photo Library. If you don’t know if you are using it, chances are you are, as the installation process on the new iPhone will prompt you to turn it on. Here’s how this method works: If photos were deleted on an iPad or iPhone without a data connection or in Airplane mode, other devices will not be aware of the deletion. Leave the device unplugged and restore content from another device to your account.
Devices can use iCloud Photo Library in two modes: “Download and Keep Originals”, or “Optimize iPhone Storage”. The former mode is most helpful to us here, and devices in this state provide the most potential for recovery.
On the other hand, if a photo was deleted on an iPhone with a data connection (as is most likely), but the other devices associated with that iCloud account are offline or disconnected, the deletion will not complete. For example, if you delete a photo to make it ‘Recently Deleted’ within 30 days, the content will not be deleted from that device as long as it remains offline.
If you have a turned off device on which photo deletion may not have been synced, you need to turn it on so it won’t connect to the Internet. Most often, an iOS device connects to the network when it is turned on. How to prevent it?
There are several tricks to stop iOS device after going online when powered on. If your device has a SIM card installed, make sure it is removed. If your device connects to a wireless network when turned on, make sure you are out of range or the hotspot is turned off. Take these precautions, then turn on the power and check.
If these options aren’t possible, it will be necessary to take the device into what is known as a Faraday cage, or to purchase a Faraday bag in which the device can be sealed and operated. These techniques are likely only suitable for more advanced users, however. ⚡️
IPhone Snapshot Recovery Process
You can get back images that were previously deleted from the iPhone 4 using another great utility called iCloud. All iPhones (4, 4S, 5s, etc.) based on iOS 8 have the new iCloud Photo Archive feature. Thanks to it, the recovery of snapshots that were previously deleted has been greatly simplified.
With the photo archive function, you can now find every uninstalled photo in “Recently Deleted”. Deleted photos are stored in the album for usually thirty days. You can return files by going to the folder where the pictures that the user recently deleted from the phone‘s memory are stored.
This album contains almost all the photographic material that was destroyed, while it will be indicated how many days are left until the complete uninstallation of all available data.
It is allowed to restore both one image and several images at once. To do this, you need to open the element that interests you, and then restore it by clicking on the corresponding inscription, which is located at the bottom of the panel. If you need to restore a large number of files, you will have to click on the “Select” item, and then mark the images you need.
How to get a snapshot from a backup copy

First of all, you need to connect your smartphone (versions 4, 6 or others) to a personal computer, and then launch the program. Take a look at the top of the screen where the recovery item will be located.
